Wisconsin's New O-Line Coach: Eric Mateos

0:00On April 20th, Wisconsin just hired Eric Mateos as their new offensive line coach, and the dude hit the ground running. The same day he got the job, he called off offensive tackle Kevin Haywood to say what's up. By their first meeting, Mateos had already broken down all of Haywood's film from last spring. He's coming over from Arkansas, with past stops alongside offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes at Baylor and BYU. Mateos joins five new transfers to pump fresh energy into the Badger's line, which has struggled through coaching turnover, injuries, and weak performance lately. Players are fired up about him. Haywood called Mateos a dog super honest no fluff. He points out mistakes straight up and drills down on every little detail in practice, something that was missing before. That detail of session sets him apart from the last coach, AJ Blazek, who was great at recruiting, but not always locked in on the fundamentals. Now, the whole room feels that spark, with better communication and respect flowing both ways.
