Williams Joins Commanders, Potential McLaurin Partner

0:00On April 27th, Washington Commanders just snagged wide receiver Antonio Williams, 71st overall in the 3rd round out of Clemson. They're hoping he follows the blueprint of Terry McCorn, their 3rd round steal from 2019, picks 76 overall. McCorn's turn into one of the NFL's top receivers at age 31. It's a smart move, practically speaking. McCorn needs a rising partner on the depth chart, and Williams fits that bill perfectly, especially since he might have gone higher in the draft, without last year's hiccups. Williams dealt with an early injury in the 2025 college season, and Clemson's whole campaign struggled, putting extra pressure on there, quarterback and receivers. Still, in 2024, he was a steady playmaker for one of the nation's elite programs. He's not the biggest guy at 5'11, and he's got some flaws as a receiver, but that down year wasn't about losing skills, just bad breaks and team woes. The commanders have solid depth, so they can ease him in until he's ready to shine.
