Will DJ Moore fit what the Bills need?

0:00We've got to really figure out what your receiver one is really good at and then as your receiver one bringing anybody alone with him to take some of the pressure off of the receiver one that is quoted to be the receiver one. So if that's not happening then the receiver one is just out there just playing ball and getting strapped and then if you don't have nobody else out there like other teams have we have to go out there and just play as a unit. 2:01is it, how badly do you need one, how do you just write, how do you define it, there's no doing that anymore, it's this guy, it needs to be this guy, Alec Pierce, resigned in Indian apolis for huge money, more even than DJ Moore is making, and they had a press conference, and one report was like eight to 10 targets a game, well Alec Pierce, his targets are down the field, there's no way that that's going to continue and he's going to get 10 targets a game on that sort of level, like that's not going to pretty possible 47 passes last year, I mean, but that, and that was a possibility, that was an idea in free agency, I don't know, is he a wide receiver one, how do you even want to define that, is it just the best receiver on your team, is it the top 32 guys in the league, I guess it's all debatable, but here, it's got to be DJ Moore, he's got to be ready to try to live, I'm not sure it's,

3:04well, it could be eight to 10 targets game, it probably should be, but they're not going to be all, you know, deep shots, yeah, I don't know, I guess, I know we've talked around it and about it for two years, I don't know that I really have the clear definition, even in my own head of what, what it really means, like what is wide receiver one, I know it's easy to look at the bills the last two years and say they didn't have it, and by that, I just mean they did not have a guy that deserve to be fed, that that's, that maybe is, is the base sort of ground floor foundational definition, I would expand it from there, but do I have a guy that's good enough amongst my group that deserves to be fed, is he going to, is he more dangerous, is he going to get open consistently, will he have chemistry with my quarterback, if all those things are true, then I think I have a wide receiver one, I've got a guy that warrants the quarterbacks first thought, I mean, I know they're going

4:07to be different plays where different guys are the, you know, the intended target and whatever play design, but like, I think DJ Moore meets that criteria well enough for me, is he wide receiver one on every team in the league? I mean, of course not, you know, he might be wide receiver 20 out of the wide receiver ones in the NFL at best, you know, but he's qualifies, he meets, he meets the base level criteria for me of that on this team right now. So from there, I mean, I don't know, like the Alec Pierce all along to me felt like the great, the best idea you could have if you already have a wide receiver one, I'm going to bring this guy in and he is going to do this one thing really well and he will get some targets because of it and I'm going to pay him heavily because I can afford it and make it sing, but I don't think his career to this point

5:09tells you he deserves being labeled wide receiver one. I love that point. 2021 digs put Alec Pierce across right like that. We are humming. That's, you know, you know, that's a great idea, but no, I'd ever liked that. I mean, of course, it was going to cost a billion dollars, but never liked that idea for this year. I mean, Clio Shakir, 76 catches in 2024, 72 in 2025, both times leading the bills, you're looking at like 45 yards of game, 45, 50 yards of game, four and a half catches or so on average per game. Like that's not wide receiver one adjacent. That's not even close to that, but he is the number one receiver they have. Right. And of course, they went about correcting that and they probably have, but to what extent, I guess we'll find out. Yeah, to me, way, you know, we've all weighed in on the price, maybe me least of all because I wasn't here the day it happened. But it, yeah, in a way more credible fashion, they addressed it

6:12than they did last year. Like to me, the idea that Josh Palmer was any anywhere near going to be that player was insane. And not that the bills even ever said that, right. But we're hoping for an upgrade and a decisive market one at that to the receiving core and they brought us Josh Palmer and we all kind of went, yeah, that's probably not going to do it. And it didn't. I think more has a chance to be a 100 catch, you know, 1200 yard receiver on this team. You know, I right now, I would take that if he if he gave you that with, you know, I don't know eight touchdowns or something. That's a great year. That's a hit. Um, I think that's and that's not insane to have ever thought about Josh Palmer doing that would have been insane. Yeah, well, I'm not copying to that. Because I never thought it would be half that with Palmer. Maybe that'll be different. If more hits than Palmer, if healthy, he can really play an interesting complimentary role to more. Here's

Uh, you know, I, I guess my expectations are limited with more because I don't think their offense leads to kind of, you know, 1000 yard, we know why receivers, I think we're run heavy. Palmer was never that even with the chargers. Like just somebody that matters from a game plan standpoint. I think we want that. That was, that's kind of the underlying point in making a move like this. And then ultimately what it is is in the playoffs when it comes down to it. The bills have all these close playoff losses. This guy makes the play. He kind of did that for the Bears. He did not have a huge year. He had his worst year statistically ever for Chicago. But game on the line, laid in the season, the green bay playoff game, bomb to DJ Moore, touchdown. Like he gave you that. And that's what the bills have not been able to find. Right. He held on to that ball. Every time you see that highlight,

9:24obviously, we've seen it now maybe more than other people because he's on the bills now. So you just, you know, you're getting DJ Moore highlight reels. But that play, it's a, it's one of the biggest plays in the playoffs this year. So it gets airtime. Every time I watch it, it stands out to me how he rolls to the ground and holds on to the ball. It looks very similar to Brandon Cook's to me against Denver. Not that the guy's ripping at it. But like it's it's it's same kind of catch and he rolls over and he's got the ball. Like he held on, you know, that's a really big play. And that's yeah, I'm going to need you to do that in January. Because this year, I couldn't do it in January. That ball was, you know, close enough should have been caught. A lot of people think it was. I don't happen to agree. But whatever, make it so it can't be taken away from you. Hold on. Catch the ball. Yeah, that was a great catch. And it almost looks like how is he not injured? He sort of stays down. Yeah, that's right. You see the packers. So that's it. I mean,

But if he has the kind of season that gets them to that game again and somebody else makes that play and maybe it's because DJ Moore is getting double teamed or something, then you win. I don't think it's a stat threshold that needs to be reached. I mean, they have won 12 or so games a year for years here with Shakir catching 72 for 600 or set whatever that number is. I don't even know. Like he can top that. I don't feel like that means it will not be considered a success if you'll allow the double negative. So yeah, I mean, what the bills have it for all the talking. What they haven't had is the guy in the playoffs to get it done. And that includes Diggs. I mean, for as great as Diggs was in his career, he was neither the player that in the playoffs. It didn't really happen. Kansas City. What is it? One for three in the game,
