Tom Reed is back and we're wondering if you were a good luck or bad luck they had done so well with you on the shelf you come back and well they proved that you're not the problem there Tom Reed because they put up a five zero shut out great all-around effort start to finish. I love to talk with the guys before the game Kevin and they all said who are you. So you know where I'm coming from you know it was great how about Gus that's his 15th career shut out as his fourth of the season for this hockey club also and they really protect him when they got in that third period the latter part of it I thought they did a good job but he was very good he was one of the strengths of this team tonight. We know about Boulder we know about Caprice after those those are the two guys they gave the wild the two zero advantage but how about the new guy this is your first chance to see these guys in person including Bobby Brink skate in his second game as a member of the Minnesota Wild but first on home ice and he dazzled the crowd with his first goal

Yeah good for him you know but then that's that's what you need to do especially if you're a goal score you want to score goals you want to get points obviously and that's that's exactly what happens with him tonight he did a nice job with it it's gonna be fun to watch him you know navigate his way through the the rest of the season here and we're going in the playoffs it's going to be interesting to see how Minnesota performs in the latter part but they just have to continue to play with the confidence and have every everyone be a part of the team you know that I don't give you a defenseman a forward a goalton or whatever everyone needs to contribute if you want to be successful in this game. I asked you about Brink this is your first time seeing all these guys in person in a wild uniform not only Brink but Felino McCarran what do you think about the moves in total that Bill Gehrin put together last Friday at the NHL tree deadline. I like the moves at this point it's going to take a while before you really understand what these these guys are going to bring to the table but I think for the most part they're coming to a team that's had a very good year they have a good young naked nucleus of this hockey club

3:06also and the guys coming here have really helped especially on the face-offs I mean I'm really happy with the way it is transformed here in the game here tonight and and I've always said and we've maintained time and time again winning the draws is so important it gives you a chance to go on the offensive you lose it you're chasing and you're too tired to do anything once you do to get it but I just like the way this one went now they've got to do it in a couple more nights against a team coming to town that being what Philadelphia coming here and then New York on Saturday and Toronto and Sunday it's going to be a lot of games and a very short period of time. Give me a quick preview then of the rest of this homestand we know that the the the upper echelon of the teams that they just face whether be Vegas Tampa Bay Colorado now tonight the Utah four teams that are destined for the playoffs they've got three on the horizon all coming from the east that probably are not going to the Stanley Cup playoffs in the flyers the Rangers and the Leafs how do they keep up this you know quote unquote springtime playoff intensity against teams that aren't postseason bound you have to you have to be competitive first of all and that's

13:31we'll set the tone go into the hard areas like that second half right as well you know what example what you do yeah you know I thought there was numerous ones I thought hearts he's fight set the tone I thought favors hit on cool he set the tone I thought you know Carill going in and getting that you know the first goal and even Vlad he coming in he's physical you know we get the we get the puck back and then Carill gets a you know a second effort shot so I thought there was a lot of things I think early in the game that I think set the tone for for how we were going to be able to play in the mindset we needed to play with and that fourth line heavy hitting and you can get there yeah I mean I that groups really hard to play guy on their both you know they're good on face-offs they're physical they work as a trio they got size they got reach you know they're willing skaters I think when they get you know in the diesel and they're good too but as you said I think in the offensive zone when they get grinding down and and puck pursued and you know bringing some physicality it's a lot to handle he called it lucky but how difficult is that shot to get off for Carill when he's on a mean like it worked to get it like he said lock lock he's like it's lock but it's you know it was

14:34it was yeah I mean it was a heck of a plan a heck of a shot but you know I liked I liked his his tenaciousness too tonight Carill I thought he was physical and you know more you know playing with power he's such a skilled player but when he plays a power game that when he's tenacious like a dog on a bone that's when you really stand out and I think that goal is indicative of that after the one thing strung up here is we just see how Gus isn't would come back since he didn't pan out maybe how we all thought it would put him there yeah you know what I think you're always you're always concerned about that I think when when when I think there's benefits when players go and play in the tournaments in the Olympics but I think you know like in everything someone leaves your team for three weeks and sometimes it's a you know a real positive experience sometimes it's it's okay it doesn't really different than sometimes you're not sure how it affects guys but you know I did have the opportunity to see Gus a little bit when we were over there some of the games it wasn't playing one of the games we were pre scouting them before we played him and you know he seemed like he was he was good but it's nice to see him come back and I think he's back with his his group and his team and does a good job with Freddie and Wally but it's nice to see

15:37him respond the way they did since the break he's been playing more like is this the ideal ramp for him and you're might for playoffs just how frequently he's playing but then just he's like right place right time when he feels that that's can you can ask for a better I guess tune up or April yeah I would agree I think that you know it was nice to see too I think Wally played you know a really solid game so I think with the game schedule that we have this week I think we're in a four and six and I think if you go all the way till next week and that four and six goes into a seven and twelve so I think with both goalies playing the way that they are I think it's good that you know they're going to get each they're they're going to get good opportunities to play getting their rhythms and hopefully they continue to do it and like I said earlier in the year I think that when they can when they can stay fresh and they know what games they're going to play they either get the rest of the recovery they need but also I think more importantly sometimes for a goalie is they get some work to work on their game the little details that make a big difference and then you got a fresh guy in that every night that gives you a chance to win. Scary collision really but after that you probably couldn't have scripted it better for for

I was really happy for him that he was able to come back obviously his first game here with a lot of family and friends and you know for him the score was awesome for him but I just thought even the game he played to 90 had three or four block shots he was you know tenacious even on your off school when you're off game and you know Bobby pushes the pace and backs them back with his speed which allowed you're off to have a lot of speed coming up the ice and then he made a great move so really happy for for for Brink. I'll see the coach training before it's looking at a different guy than last year's regular season the playoffs he obviously ramped it up and I think the guy you've probably seen before was in the biggest changes he's seen like I know he did a lot of hits we have to get there first and make those hits I guess. I mean he's skating this year a lot you know he's really he's he's playing at a higher pace and I think when you are a physical player and you're moving your feet and you're playing fast it allows you to arrive on time where then you know if it's a player like him that's that's physical and prize himself on that he's putting himself in positions where he can access hits and you know even when you see him he's got a lot of hits but he's not running out of position to do it he's just he's on time and when he's on

17:42time and the opportunity presents itself he takes it. Roaster changes you know you just maybe never know how it's going to feel like it feels like a maybe a real boost of energy with your faces in the locker. What are you seeing there? Yeah I would agree with you I think that you know a lot of the players that we added have some some personality you know they're outgoing guys obviously ones a former captain in Nick yeah Petri who's a veteran player Robbie Fabri has got a great personality I think you look at Michael McCarran he's you know life of the party all the time and I think the experience is that they bring but also you know as you always say you add a player but you also add the personality and things outside of the game and all of those guys are strong team guys I think they're excited to be here and you know on and off the ice they're making a good impact and it brings a different energy to the team. The last few wins John it's been different goalscores across the board hasn't just been one player racking it up even though currently matter rolling like how I guess how are you finding the opportunities to get everybody engaged

Yeah I think it's important obviously you have depth scoring is something that I think is critical in the 82 game schedule but I also think in the playoffs and I think it's nice that you know some of the guys that that we're expecting the score are continuing to do that and play well but it also takes a little bit of the load off them when you have guys that can can score and produce and you know it makes you a harder team to defend because you might want to just have one certain matchup but if you got you know I think there's what eight eight different guys tonight had a had a had a point and you know I think that makes sure a difficult team to play against. You've ever seen somebody have a fight and then a goal and then almost a lacrosse ball in the same game. Yeah that was something on that one but I have not seen that but I thought that was going in too but that was a good good night for her see.
