You're listening to the official Minnesota wild pond cast presented by Acresher Coming up all the post-game reaction from this one plus you'll hear from the head coach and now from the Bob Kurt's radio center Here's Kevin Faulness Disappointing loss for the whole town Ottawa Senators the wild sweep the season series 43 wins and 98 points now in the air for Minnesota. They were ready from the jump Led to nothing after one and never looked back as sticktaps all around for Jake Middleton joining that scrum The help out at the final horn It's a four-one win for the wild here today Tom a Canadian Tire Center And a deflating loss for Ottawa and their playoff chase Yeah, nothing fancy about it. The wild get it done those start to finish They took care of business on the road just a wonderful road victory today as they beat the senators For one welcome to the post game show Kevin Faulness in St. Paul from the Bob Kurt's radio center time read from Ottawa
joins us and that's just with the doctor order This is back-to-back really solid victories time back-to-back games are they played a full 60 minutes? Yeah, you're right, Kevin the thing I'm looking at right now with Ottawa. That's their 76 games He got six games ago. They were the number two wild card When this game started now what's going to happen the rest of the way tonight? I look at Detroit They were just two point or had the same number points. They lost also against the New York Rangers. I mean, it's it's crazy because those two teams when I look at Ottawa and now Detroit These are huge huge games for them and Obviously out of Ottawa did that stuff on this one at all No, and they had been playing really what whereas Detroit's kind of muddling along right now and they're in a bit of a funk. I mean the senators were 501 In their last six on a home ice leading into this one But the wild didn't give them an opportunity to breathe the Ryan Harman line jumped on top of them early Put four on the board and really they skated past them without even ever looking back
Yeah, and the thing is you know minnesota they had the plan whatever the plan was worked To perfection whether it comes from the coaching staff Which I'm sure most of it does a lot comes from the players also and how they've prepared for a game like this and getting up Early today with early game, you know 1230 type of game and one of those situations where the boys are ready from the drop of the puck and they never look back The only disappointing thing about this one is that yes for wall stud was unable to hang on for the shutout But in the grand scheme of things he too is head back to back good outings this one He puts forth another big effort and comes away with 33 saves as much as the while they're going to rely on on Philip Gustafson I think we're both in agreement. He's the number one gold tender until he's not and you need yes for wall stud in your back pocket And right now they got it look You need two gold tenors going to the playoffs because you don't know what's going to happen and they both have to be In a situation that they're playing well But they need the support of the guys in front of them also so That will that being said. I'm sure as this season winds down minnesota still
Little a couple points shy of a hundred point mark on the season They would like nothing better to get those one hundred points Hopefully tomorrow and Detroit one last thing about today's game the play of Ryan Harman Thomas Something about springtime hockey brings out the best of him and now back on the board with his 21st and 22nd of the season And he's riding a real nice hot streak. Yeah, he really is nice said I'd like to see him go 40 goals, but that's not going to happen I would say the shy don't think but he has been so good for minnesota because he's controlled as his emotions on the ice And that has really led to helping just team to pick up more wins along the way All right time travel safe. We'll talk to you tomorrow on Easter Sunday. Great. Did you find your restrict? I'll be looking tonight Next time you might find neck last year's good luck. You never know that is time read out there at Canadian Tire Center Where the wild beat the senators today for one that is a final as we roll forward in this afternoon's postgame show We've got Joe O'Donnell making his way down to the wild locker room
He'll talk to one of the stars of today's contest. We'll also get you john hind postgame comments So don't go anywhere wild beat the senators for one. This is wild hockey presented by grand casino Well, like we said with mr. time read just an all-around great effort start to finish by everyone involved And that's a good thing when you go on the road It doesn't have to be fancy and I don't think there was anything fancy about this one Especially that first goal of the hockey game showed us brodine flings one on net He gets a favorable bounce before elinus allmark knows what happens It ends up back behind him and brodine's got his first goal since early December his fourth of the year Gives the wild the one zero lead and that's the score After that was midway through the first period of play then the next two go to Ryan Harman That's where we go for our grand casino play of the game set up not once but twice my matches took a relative pretty well
Put this thing away Harman's open in front superl through one that way Harman scores Oh, boy, he's waiting he scores Ryan Harman back to back two goal games and it's free nothing in favor of the wild and you had to love that also Ryan Harman on fire goals in four-street contests six goals over that span He's also got a five-game point street Tonight he gets his 21st and 22nd of the season the first one 1535 of the first proves to be the eventual game winner And then for good measure pads the lead at the 1531 mark of the second his two goals combined to give the wild the grand casino Plays of the game where Minnesota comes to play visit grand casino dot com to plan your next visit wild of one tuna row And three of their last four overall they sweep the season series from the Ottawa Senators a break And then we're going to get you inside that wild locker room looks like Joe Donald will have Jake Middleton when we continue plus John Hines and more this is well-hacky presented by grand casino
risked her by boldly missed high and wide Hughes keeps the line now Middleton as a late walks in and he scores Jake Middleton ripped it high glow The C-ported for the big defenseman and he buries his second of the year It's for nothing Minnesota C-ported no doubt about it. Holy smokes comes in from that left point and just walks in all alone Rips that shot right over the glove of all mark 1246 of the third Pretty much seals the deal and it was already sealed from that point forward the Senators for the most part just punchless in this one Middleton gets his second of the year from Quinn Hughes and shoe lyrics neck 1246 of the third that's the knockout punch While then obscene past the Senators for one tonight in Ottawa. Let's send you back out to Canadian Tire Center Looks like Joe O'Donnell is ready and waiting and standing by with midsy number five for your Minnesota wild Thanks Kevin joined outside the wild dressing room by Jake Middleton a 4-1 win for the wild today in Ottawa
Feels like you guys stacked back-to-back games a lot of Boys to this one a lot of good defensive hockey. You see it the same way. Yeah, it's that we made a lot of good decisions today Our decision-making was a factor In the game and you know once we got a lead and and started kind of running away with things We didn't change what we were doing and we stuck to the game plan and had success that way now that you guys have officially clinched a playoff spot What's the mindset? Keep going build up your game you want everything tight going into game one of the playoffs And that's what we're working towards now. It's having good kill Good power play 5 on 5 6 on 5 all those different scenarios you want to have buttoned up going into game one How hard was it the last few weeks knowing you were so close playing teams not to play off spot and trying to keep your own intensity up Yeah, yeah, it was tough some of the teams. I think I said before they get a little They're a little way lifted off their shoulders when they know they're they're out of it But they're also playing for jobs and not gripping their sticks as tight as a whole bunch of different scenarios that go into play Um, and we didn't do as well as we should of but we're getting back on track now
Take us through your goal in the third period. I'd be nice to see that ice open up in front of you Yeah, I mean spin a ram up or hand pass from Huzi And then a bit of a partial break. That was nice. I take it I haven't been on the ice with Quinn Hughes much when you're out there stick down and be ready Yeah, yeah, no exactly. He's got quite the vision and he snaps the clock hard. She always got to be on your toes All right tomorrow it's a back-to-back those scenarios are never easy you guys travel here in a few minutes What what what what do you do personally make sure you're ready in a back-to-back? Refuel and rest that's about it. Thanks for doing this. Congrats on the win and appreciate your time Thank you. Yeah, well defense been Jake Middleton back to you Kevin. That's my plan as well Refuel and rest get ready for another afternoon Game against the this time against the red wings tomorrow Indy trite. Well, of course, we'll preview that one But midsy can refuel and rest at time read hockey city pub and while they're back in town That's a great place to go for each and every Minnesota wild game because from puck drop to puck stop They tell me there's two first down at tom reads hockey city pub today
They rejoice while get the victory they beat the senators for one and get their 98th point of the season They beat the senators and all of one two in a row will break and then we'll get you John Hines post game comments and more This is wild hockey presented by grand casino The Senators break it out. Dylan causes the numbers develop you hear off the braiding can chuckle up circle over it for club save ball said They'll snatch it and hang on and so That was really on in the contest There wasn't a lot that yes for ball said head to do it didn't feel like he had to stand on his head But he was a big one called upon and the end he ends up making 33 saves and he gets the excel energy Big saves of the game powered by excel energy probably power in the great state of hockey with safe clean and reliable energy Explore how they're making energy work better for you and our communities at excel energy Dot com wild at one tune a row now. So two has yes for wall stead
He hadn't won a game since January 31st, but now his last two outings he gets the w 16 wins on the season now nine three and four in his last 16 road starts Good back-to-back efforts for yes for wall stead who is going to be Used quite a bit especially down the stretch Which is six games left to go in the regular season and then we'll see how things go in the post season once we get to that point That is closing in fast that first round matchup Written in the stars as the wild travel to Dallas to take on the former nor stars Let's send you back out to auto. It looks like yes for wall stead ready to address the media Yeah, I think it's good I think we know these last couple games before before we're heading into the playoff is It's going to be important to shape the way we want to play but also Being the right tempo when we get to play off. So I like I like their game a lot today You don't really learn yourself like what's your overall the mood there?
Yeah I think especially playing with a lot of confidence that's that's big and And guys are helping a log with unbelievable amount of block shots and That always helps me and Makes it a lot easier for me. So it was it was good mention the blocks like into the second period Yeah, no, that that means a lot And I think everyone can see it and it just lifts our energy as a group There's there's multiple guys that did as well A key almost got a break away from it as well. So Yeah, no, I think everyone can read off of it too. They see that guys We don't take anything for granted even though we're we're good for playoffs But we know how important it's still going to be to play the right way heading into Yeah, he's great on the pk
And he he placed that the gritty style of game that that we need I think that that line today was exceptional. They they had some shifts where they they were running everything and then they Got it in deep and and kept a lot of pucks and Spend a lot of time and they're so in two. So Then he's a great guy off the ice as well. He's loud and Makes everyone happy and I keep everyone on their toes. So I think he's brought a lot into this group No, it's it's kind of getting to that point where like oh, it's it's almost there, but You also in these games you also know that anything can happen any second and we saw that today and I'm just I'm here for for winning and Today we got the win and I'm happy with that Thank you. Thank you There you go. Yes, we're volsted with the media out there at Canada Tire Center now we go across the hall
John Hines ready to address the media list to join him in progress now And you knew coming in that it was going to be a physical game which it was you knew how it was going to be desperate Which they were how are you guys able to play such a complete game? I just thought we played the game with the right intentions tonight. You know, we we played fast We played uh, we were really good with the puck I thought our execution puck decisions were good Our puck pressure and physicality was strong. So it was it was a I really saw the game for us Had to play the third period for a lot of the time with four defense. I know Jared came back any update on the coach I don't have an update on Bogo. Obviously. Yeah, Spirgy came back. So he's good to go Uh, I'll have to wait and hear what's up with Bogo a little bit later Yeah, I think the last two games, you know I just think they're skating and working I think they're making really good puck decisions when there's plays to be made they're making them but You know, there's lots of times even in tonight's game They reset pucks in the offensive zone They put pucks behind and they get to a a puck pressure game
So I think when you have three guys like that that are skating and working like that And then they have strong puck decisions. They can create offense in multiple ways You mentioned that was a good rush team. It looked like for most of this game They weren't able to get a number of situations within your structure. How did you do it? Well, I thought to start it always starts with puck play I think when you play a good rush team when we didn't feed their transition In turn pucks over in dangerous areas I thought our defense we did a great job of gaps in our forwards track card So uh, even when they had some potential, you know I'd ban rushes our D were strong and then I thought our forwards did a great job tracking back and giving a D support Well, like you said, I mean they were you know, they're they're strong defensively They're good in the face-off circle. I think they're they're physical They play a strong puck pressure game and I think they you know They set themselves up to play to their strengths, which is you know Puck pressure is strong in the offensive zone and I think they did a great job of that tonight Cardin scores, Middleton scores how much better John big picture is your team when the D men are getting involved in the offense the right way
Yeah, it's important. I think that when you look at I think even playoff teams when you look at points by defense When it's a big factor and in in in being able to create multiple ways and having your D involved in the offense And it was good to see those guys get a couple tonight both of those guys, you know Do a lot of heavy lifting for us and uh, it's nice to think get rewarded on the score sheet as well How good was Wally and goal for you? Wally was great. I thought you made you made key says when you needed to You know, they had some good looks. I think early in the game and then you know throughout the game There's always going to be breakdowns or the other teams are going to make a good play because they're good They're good as well and when they did Wally was held strong for us Late in the second you have three nothing favoratively blocked shot. What does the message that send to the room too? It's big. It's all the you know the thankless jobs and I think that you know the guys take pride in that whether it's physicality shop blocking like faves did Taking hits to make plays all those little things, you know They don't come up on a score sheet, but they certainly contribute to winning and I think uh, you know a strong team chemistry when guys are willing to do that I mentioned Hartman earlier. What the deadline about talk was getting to center out the deadline But how much is when he's going at this game like this could be
Yeah, Hart sees I mean he's such a good player for us. I think all year long. He's been he's been strong. You know, he's playing discipline He's made great great plays with the puck. He's getting to the inside of the ice offensively. He's using a shot He's good in the face off circle. I thought he's been strong defensively. He's playing skating game and you know, Hart sees When he does those things, he's a he's an excellent player But also he's a you know, he's a competitive guy when the he when the games get turned up or high stakes games He's got that in him where he plays his best hockey. So it's good to see him heating up now Yeah, next next very good. I think he's uh, you know, he's played so much hockey, but particularly on the penalty kill He helps in the face off circle, but you know, his attention to detail and and I think with his experience as well I'm being a good penalty kill. I think he knows you know, there's lots of repetitive situations and when you know what the kill is You can anticipate the next play and I think he does a good job of that Thank you. All right. Thanks guys There's the head coach of the Minnesota wild John Heinz. He stopped abruptly
So that's okay. John Heinz. We got the gist of it The question marks are going to be about Spurgeon and Bagotian apparently Spurgeon is okay We'll wait to hear what we got on as Zach Bagotian. They do got Damon Hunt and Jeff Petri waiting in the wings But as of right now All we know is there's a question mark over the head of Zach Bagotian For one the wild take out the Ottawa Senators today in Ottawa will break and then we'll uh continue to get you ready for the wild And wings that's coming up tomorrow on most of these same stations.
