Why is God Blessing Them and Not Me?

For more devotionals, visit BattleDrillDevotional.com Have you ever watched someone else receive the very thing that you've been praying for? A new job, a healed relationship, a baby, a breakthrough? And you're genuinely happy for them, of course you are, but something inside you quietly breaks. It can feel like betrayal, like God's playing favorites. But here's what I've learned after 13 years of walking with people through seasons like this. God promises faithfulness, not fairness. Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 and 23 say, The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness. Most people think God's goodness is measured in outcomes. Get the answer you want and God is good.

1:01Don't get it, and well maybe he's forgotten you. But the Bible says something different. God's goodness is measured in his character, unchanging, regardless of your circumstance. Today we're going to prove why that matters, and I want to give you a plan to stew a disappointment without losing hope. So let me ask you this. What if God's goodness to others doesn't diminish his goodness to you? Comparison is a thief of joy. Galatians chapter 6 verse 4 says, Pay careful attention to your own work. For then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else. We're wired to measure ourselves against others, aren't we? The work, the church on social media, we're always glancing sideways. But here's the truth. Someone else's blessing isn't your loss. God's resources aren't limited, he's not rationing miracles.

2:03So today when comparison creeps in and believe me it will, try saying this. Their story isn't my story. God knows what I mean. Then redirect your gaze back to him. It's a small shift, but it changes everything. Now that's why it's counsel, but I know that it doesn't stop the ache, does it? What do we do with the pain? Here's the deepest truth that I can offer you. God's timing is personal, not random. Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verse 11 says, God has made everything beautiful for its own time. There's a season for everything, and you're not behind. I know it might feel like it, I know the calendar says otherwise, but what looks like delay is often divine design. God's timing for you is tailored, not tardy. He isn't distracted, he's not slow, he's purposeful.

3:05So instead of asking, why not me? Try asking, what is God doing in me through this weight? You might be surprised by the answer. Growth often happens in the waiting room, not the delivery room. But I hear what you're saying. That doesn't ease the loneliness when you're the only one still waiting. So let me say this as gently as I can. Lament and trust can coexist. Psalm 13 verses 1 and 2 say, O Lord, how long will you forget me forever? How long will you look the other way? That's pretty raw, isn't it? That's honest pain poured out before God. But then David writes in verse 5, but I trust in your unfailing love. He didn't suppress the pain to access the promise. He held both at the same time, and you can too. You don't have to pretend that it doesn't hurt.

4:05Bring that hurt to God, and then choose trust anyway. Here's something practical. Write down your lament today. Be honest, be messy. But then underneath it write these words. And still I trust you. Both are true. Both are faithful. And finally, remember this. Your story isn't over. Second Corinthians chapter 4 verse 17 says, Our present troubles are small and won't last very long, yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them, and will last forever. Paul wrote those words from prison. He'd been shipwrecked, beaten, abandoned, and still he said, this is temporary. What God's building in you is eternal. So today, when the pain feels permanent, remind yourself. This chapter isn't the whole book.

5:05God is still writing. Let's pull all this together for today. Comparison is a thief of joy, so guard your eyes. God's timing is personal, not random, so trust his pace. Lament and trust can coexist, so bring your honest heart to God. And your story isn't over, so don't close the book early. The pain we name today, watching others receive what you're still praying for, finds hope not in fairness, but in a faithful God who knows your name, who knows your need, and who knows your next chapter.
