Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. Hello, Critter Protectors, Mr. Jim here and welcome to Kids Animal Stories. A place where there's always a mystery and adventure around every single corner. If you love critters of all shapes and sizes, I need you on our Critter Protector team. Join our adventure as we learn about critters from around the world and in our back yards. Well, my friends, are you ready for today's adventure? Me too! Let's go! Today is another one of our amazing mystery critter adventures, which means my critter protectors, you are going to have to listen very close to all the clues in their story so that you can try and solve what critter you believe this mystery is about. Gilligan swam around back and forth looking to the left and to the right.
He had a very special job this time and year and he was taking it very seriously. He was a first-time father and he was determined to keep his nest safe and sound. No critter was getting past this tough guy. If I just keep swimming and watching, there's no way in the world anything will get to these special little eggs. Gilligan said to himself, he was so proud to be a dad and he was excited for the summer with all of his little unswimming around. He was going to be so much fun. Gilligan had grown up in a small little pond at Hatchery Park way up in Northern Illinois. His species was well known in this area and all over the USA and even in some other countries. Some think of his kind as pests but they play a very important role in the food chain.
After a bit more patrolling, Maisie swam back to him. Hey Gilligan, how are things going? Maisie and Gilligan had grown up together. They learned to scavenge different food, swim fast with all their friends. They went to school together and decided to start a family together. Oh pretty good Maisie, I'm just trying to keep these little ones of our safe. You don't want anyone to come and eat our eggs. You're going to Hatch any day now. Said Gilligan, I'm so excited for our summer together as a family. Maisie said, be to me too. Agreed Gilligan. Okay, well I'm going to go get some dinner. Will you be okay for a little while longer? She asked, oh yeah, no problem. I'll see you in a little bit. Gilligan said, Maisie swam off into the seaweed and out of sight. Gilligan kept Don swimming back and forth, back and forth until he spotted something.
Small, light-colored, broaching his little area of the pond. Well, what in the world could that be? He thought, I guess I gotta go check it out. It's getting much too close to these eggs. Gilligan swam over to the small dangling spec in the murky water. He looked at it very closely with both of his eyes. Then, go. He took a big bite without even thinking, oh dear. Gilligan called, but it was too late out. He was being pulled out of the water by his mouth. He was scared for his life. Oh no, do you know what's going on with Gilligan? What in the world hasn't by his mouth? I got one. I got one, my first one of the year. A boy named Joey had just caught Gilligan with his fishing pole and was so excited to be
reeling him in. Okay, okay, Joey, careful now. Joey's dad was nearby making sure he got a good grip of Gilligan. All right, what you do is slide your hand over his fins. They're a bit pointy if you aren't careful. Oh, I've got it, dad. Joey said with excitement, Joey slid his hand over Gilligan and pulled his hook out of the mouth. Dad, look at his amazing blue and green color. Can I keep him in the bucket for a little bit? Joey asked, oh yes, yes you can just for a little while, then we will put him back in the water. Plop. Gilligan could breathe again. Where am I? Where do these aliens take me? Gilligan panic. He swam in circles, around and around and around without getting anywhere. I can't get out of here. And my eggs are all alone.
Gilligan shouted. Oh no, what in the world is going on here? Did Gilligan really just get caught by aliens and sucked up into space? Or no, I don't think so. What do you think Gilligan is? There's a lot of interesting clues. A fish that has blue and green on it, and they have pointy fins and hmm, I'm not sure yet. I think we're going to have to come back for part two and try and figure out who Gilligan is. And do you think he's going to get out of this bucket and go save his eggs? Will those aliens ever release him? I'm not sure, but we're going to have to wait and see what happens on the next episode of Kids Animal Stories. Great job, you listened all the way to the end.
