When We’ve Let Ourselves Down

“What will you give me if I betray him to you?” — Matthew 26:15

Have you ever wanted something so much

that you went along with something you knew wasn’t right?

Maybe not just went along—

but chose it. Participated in it. Justified it.

This is where Judas finds himself.

Matthew tells us he did it for money.

But rarely is it only about money.

Sometimes it’s about security.

Sometimes it’s about power.

Sometimes it’s about finally feeling like we belong

instead of standing on the outside looking in.

Judas felt the weight of what he had done.

And while the love of God is unwavering, even here,

he could not receive the love that was still being offered to him—

because all he could feel was his guilt.

At times,

this may be the harder struggle.

Because sometimes it is not just what we’ve done—

but learning how to live with it.

It’s been said we will never regret doing what is right,

even when it costs us something.

May we have the determination to choose what is good,

even when it is difficult.

And the courage to try again when we fall short.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
