This is Battle Drill Daily Devotional, your host is Rob West repain of the Salvation Army. Let's explore God's Word together in just a few minutes. But nothing feels clear. That's what anxiety does. It pulls you under, even when you're standing on solid ground. But here's the good news. Whilst God doesn't promise to remove every problem, He does promise to be present in every problem. Jesus said, don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in me. He didn't say, don't worry, nothing bad will ever happen. He said, trust me. I'm here. Most people think peace means no problems. But the Bible says peace is a person,
and he stays closer than the problem ever gets. Today, I want to show you why that changes everything. And I'll give you a simple plan to practice his presence when panic rises. So here's the question for today. What if the cure for anxiety isn't less pressure, but more presence? Let's start here. Anxiety reveals what we're trusting. And Jesus doesn't shame us for it. He gently redirects us. In Matthew chapter 6, he says, look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in bounds. For your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Now, Jesus isn't talking to people with easy lives. He's speaking to ordinary people, worried about real things, food, clothing, survival. And his response isn't just not worrying.
It's, look at what your Father already does. Anxiety isn't a sin. It's a signal. It tells us we're carrying weight that we were never built to bear. So, when you feel overwhelmed, try pausing and asking yourself this. What am I trying to control that only God can handle? That one question can shift the load. But here's the thing. Knowing God can carry it doesn't always mean we feel in doing it. So, what do we do in that gap? This is the heart of today's message. God's presence is promised, not earned. Hebrews chapter 13 verse 5 says, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you. That was written to people losing their homes, facing persecution, watching their world fall apart.
And God's word to them was simply this. I'm not going anywhere. God doesn't wait until you've calmed down to show up. You're already there in the mess, in the middle, in the moment you can't breathe. So, here's something to practice today. When anxiety spikes say out loud, God, you're here. I'm not alone. You're not trying to conjure him up. You're remembering what's already true. Now, that sound simple, doesn't it? Maybe too simple. What about when it doesn't feel like enough? Well, that's where this next truth helps. Peace grows in small obedience. Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 and 7 says, don't worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything that we can understand.
Paul wrote those words from a prison cell. He wasn't living in comfort. He was living in Christ. And he found that peace isn't a feeling you chase. It's a fruit that grows when you hand God each fear as it comes. So start small today. One worry. One prayer. One breath. Don't aim for total calm. Just aim for one honest conversation with God. And finally, tomorrow's grace comes tomorrow. Jesus said, don't worry about tomorrow. For tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. He knows that we borrow fear from the future. But you don't have grace for tomorrow's problems today. And that's by design. God portions His strength for the day that you're in. When your mind races ahead, gently pull it back.
Ask yourself, what does obedience look like right now in this moment? That's where His presence meets you. So here's what we've seen today. Anxiety reveals what we're trusting. God's presence is promised, not earned. Peace grows in small obedience and tomorrow's grace comes tomorrow. The anxiety that won't let go finds its relief not in escape, but in presence. God is here. And He's not waiting for you to calm down first. Tomorrow we're asking ourselves a hard question. What do you do when you've done everything right? And life still falls apart. We'll look at a promise God makes when the bottom drops out. Join me then. Thanks for joining us for today's Battle Drill Daily Devotional.
