What was supposed to launch late this year alongside the airport is now pushed back, with talks still ongoing. Sydney Metro's chief executive, Peter Regan, told lawmakers their deep and commercial discussions during construction. The outcome will set the final timeline as they're not yet testing the tracks. Earlier reports showed confidential plans targeting completion by late December 2027, a full year behind schedule. Regan called the contractor's claims, very concerning and stressed protecting taxpayer dollars over rushing the job. An independent probe into the issues should wrap up soon. The total price tag might climb past $12 billion because of these legal fights.

Those rides will take about 30 minutes, twice as long as the promised 15-minute train trip. The consortium behind it includes Italy's web build, Germany's Siemens, France's RATP, and Australia's plenary. Looking ahead, the first of 12 new trains arrive from Europe in coming months and can expand if crowds grow.
