Welsh Language Homes Ruled Discriminatory

But Gwyneth Council shut it down, calling the idea discriminatory and against planning rules. The homes are fully affordable, with options for rent and part ownership, on land near the coast. Treffer has about 1,000 residents, most of whom speak Welsh. The council had no issue with the project itself. Just one of that language condition added. Locals had mixed feelings. Some residents said it would help keep the Welsh language alive by prioritising those who speak it or want to learn. Others worried it could spark bigger divides, especially with talk of nationalist gaining power. Even after the rejection, Wales' Deputy Welsh Language Commissioner voiced support for ideas that strengthen Welsh-speaking areas. He stressed the need to sustain these communities for the language's future. Reform Wales pushed back, saying, homes should go to all Welsh people regardless of language.
