Welder Charged with Murder in Derry

0:00On March 27, a 30-year-old welder from Derry faces murder charges after the death of a young mother last month. Conor McNamey appeared in Derry Magistrate's court, charged with killing 28-year-old Amy Doherty on March 21. The charge includes aggravating domestic abuse. She was found badly hurt at her home in Summer Meadow Muse and died soon after. McNamey also faces charges for having a kitchen knife as an offensive weapon that day, plus possessing class A drugs. He joined the hearing by video link from a wheelchair, showing bruising on his face and only confirmed he understood the charges. His lawyer called it a tragic case for the victim's two young kids and plans to get a psychiatric report. No bail was sought. The judge offered condolences to Amy's family and friends. McNamey is due back in court on April 23 as the case moves forward.
