WASHINGTON CO. FREE FAIR

0:00I'm running morning, morning, welcome, welcome, welcome. It's time now for our community connection right here on K one the one you trust and it is getting to be really, really close to fair time. And my goodness, say, we have chairman French in here today. How are we doing today, sir? I'm doing spectacular. Thank you for having me. Well, this is great. You know, I got to tell you James, this fair has just been growing by leaps and bounds each and every year more and more attendance. You got the school kids coming in and then of course they're begging their parents to take them back at night. But you have all kinds of things that are so interactive too for the longest time everyone thought, well, this is just where they show the animals and maybe somebody, you know, begs a pie. But that's so much more. Oh, that's right. You're 100% right about that. So I appreciate mentioning the kids. You know, obviously we want the kids to show up with the schools while they're there.

1:01Not only can they see all the livestock go inside to the inside exhibits, see the bug. We call them the bug lady. God, all the amazing insects showing all that off. But also outside we have a gentleman who comes in and he does making ropes rope tying different things like that. The kids love that exhibit. Plus they get to take something with them from that. Nice. So and then there'll be some other sometimes some some of the shops inside will have some little goodies for the kids. And of course the kids love that. So yeah, you know, kids teachers bring your kids in talk to your schools get them in there. And then kids parents come in of an evening and see what we have going on. Now we start off on Thursday night with I think it's probably the best way to kick off any kind of free fare. Yeah, yeah, that's right. So Thursday we've got the Sutton Aving and live bird experience. That's that's another one of those things. Now that's a little bit earlier in the day. Yeah, sure. Yeah, but that's big. Yeah. Yeah. So 11 to 4 p.m. there 11 a.m. 4 p.m. People love that one. The the dog and pet show is Thursday night at 6 p.m.

2:10And another one that that I want to touch on is so every day Thursday to Saturday there is someone there cooking either lunch or dinner or lunch and dinner. And so you can get lunch and dinner at the fair. I believe that's right. Don't have to leave. And on Thursday this line's up perfectly. There's the cattle women's pie auction pie and basket auction. So you can eat dinner and then until you can't resist bidding anymore you start bidding. Oh, and this is great. It's always a good time to. That's right. It's a lot of money for a lot of great activities that go on that are farm and ranch related. This is awesome time. Now the cost for the dinners. It didn't go to break it back. It's probably the best deal on the planet right now. It's $10. That's it. That's it. And you get fed. You do. You get home cooking. Big plate. It's great. You get a drink, dessert and a main course with some sides. Can't beat it. Cannot beat it. My goodness. Six now on Friday. What we have cooking on Friday. Not necessarily cooking, but we'll get to that again. Yeah. Yeah. So on Friday. Yeah. On Friday. So we start out the day. We do a thing called farmers fraction. So it's a breakfast. So that's another meal you can get.

3:19But on top of that what it is is it's designed. They've got some literature up and it's designed to showcase the amount of money that a farmer would actually make for every dollar you spend on your meal. So that that's a fun experience for a lot of people kind of understanding that. And then we've got the broiler and rabbit shows the broilers are meat birds, meat chickens. So that's 9 a.m. Corn dog eating contest at 5 p.m. That's that's you might want to participate. But if nothing else it is fun to go watch. I want to thank Copan trucks up there for being our generous sponsor on that one we couldn't do without him. And also on Thursday. Sorry on Friday. We've got the horse show at 6 p.m. So that's another one we really want to get that message out to the community. You know we've got we've got people out there with horses. You want to come up and participate. You know we've got that on Friday. There was a time when it was on Thursday it was difficult to make so we move that to Friday because we want people to come in not only not only participate but we want people to come in and watch the there's some beautiful animals up there and some very trained people very skilled people showcasing their animals.

4:29Well I got to you it's always great you got a wonderful setting there not a bad seat in the house. That comes as showering. That's right. And then another thing we have on on Friday long with that horse show at 7 p.m. We have the dairy Darian cattle dairy goat and cattle dairy cattle. There we go. There you go. Show and then a fan favorite is the pedal pull. So these are the kiddos it's like it's like the you know the the the pull at the monster truck rallies. Yeah. Yeah. But it's the kids with pedal pulls. It's all like power. Oh it's all like power and ambition. It's it's a kind of fun. It's growing every year. You'd be amazed at how many people show up to watch the kids do it. Oh you guys get quite a crowd. I remember the first year everybody kind of was like waiting and seeing what it was going to be like and then the next two was like hey that's right. This is our appointment. We got to be here for this. And you know a fun thing about it too is technically speaking this this is a an officially event. And so there's there's actually a league for this and the kids can go on. If they win here they they actually qualify to go on. Wow. So that was something I didn't even realize the first year. Nice. And in the Saturday we got a lot of livestock. We do. So Saturday morning starts at 9 a.m. with our livestock show. The order is swine sheep goat and cattle shows. And so those those are your you know your meat breeds rather than the dairy. And that's that's a lot of fun to play.

5:57We've come out and see we're growing in those numbers a lot of times this time of year for our county. It's difficult to get a lot of swine in. We have some swine this year. Our sheep and goats have been growing like crazy with cattle prices the way they are. It's hard for everybody to forward to do cattle. But we've still got some good cattle turn out this year. I really want everybody to come out and see that and see what these kids do with these animals. And what do we have Saturday night. This is a different kind of party. Oh yeah. So Saturday night. So Saturday night we've got the classic car car show 3 to 5 p.m. It is check in. Sorry. And then the show is 5 to 8 p.m. That's that's a great thing a great turnout. Real quick one thing that I skipped over on Friday. I do want to touch on is that's when we have the foam party. So those those kiddos those kiddos want to come out and check that out. It's it's there's a giant foam machine and you just run around and have some fun. You can't beat it. Can't not beat it. And yes, yeah, sorry. That's Friday and it's 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. Oh wow.

7:08You can't beat great way to end the week right. You know after school come out. Relax. Blossom steam. It's just starting to cool off. So it's going to be perfect timing. Now let's get to the the kitchen back there again because I know folks kind of operate around that a little bit. Now we do know that we've got the big Thursday night dinner and providing that. So Thursday night dinner is a do we have a great so I can run through that real quick. So Thursday lunch is Washington County free fare board. We're providing that as we said dinner is do we have a that they do an amazing job Friday lunch is Bartosville FFA and again these guys get in there they do an amazing job dinner is co-pan Aggies and you can make imagine the home cooking that they produce right every year that's right it's a winner Saturday at lunch is Bartosville Indian women's and that's that's a fan favorite. They'll be a line at the door when they open up.

8:08And then dinner is Farm Bureau Farm Bureau young farmers and ranchers. Saturday night at 5 to 8 p.m. Well this is super here. Now what where can we get one of these Fairbugs. So the Fairbugs there's still some physical copies available at the Extension Office. Okay. But in addition to that if you just Google Washington County Oklahoma free fare it'll be the first link I believe that pops up it'll go right to the free fare page on the county website and you can just click the picture of the Fairbook. Oh now you got a neat thing here. We do so our our theme this year is get your kicks at the Washington County free fare and so we want everybody making memories at last a lifetime. Oh and they will. You know one thing about the fair that I like you got two different things kind of going on. First of all it's it's legacy families who've been participating for years it is and also we now we have a lot of new families who have discovered it. And they're now into the pipeline and they're now becoming the regulators and we've got more people that come in too so it's really feeding and feeding into it pretty nicely.

9:13You're 100% right. You know with with our growing agriculture section through the FFA especially with Marsful having FFA. We've seen a lot more involvement from the kids and another thing that we really want to make sure everybody's aware of and get out there. Not only do we have a lot of the home economic type things that you would think of with with baking and canning and sewing but we also have photography we have art so you know the kiddos who are great at drawing and coloring and painting pictures taking pictures. Get out there and enter those and then as well as that we also have some stem stem section so you know the kids who are good at robotics. You just like you can go by the Lego sets anymore right and put together a robot kit from a Lego set or any other built. You can absolutely enter those are there are categories for these kinds of things. One thing I do want to mention case anyone sees it you say oh darn my kid was really excited about entering in the open photography but it's too I saw there was a entry period.

10:17Look this is the county fair we're growing we don't have the the space problems that Tulsa State Fair has yet and so we want people entering we're not going to turn somebody away just because they missed the entry deadline. All right well that's good you know if I do want to mention too so if if it's a kid youth to enter in for a true FFA areas they have to be a member of for a true FFA but they can always enter in the open section. Ah there you go that's right so there's there's a path for everybody I love this James French chairman of the Washington County free fair thank you for bringing us a lot of good news.
