Wake County Explores Speed Cameras in School Zones

North Carolina Senate Bill 391, past this year, opens the door for these automated enforcement tools to make streets safer around. Schools. This bill's on existing efforts with school bus stop arm cameras, first okayed, back in 2009. These catch drivers who illegally pass buses with flashing lights in extended arms. Neil Raimi, the board's attorney advisor, plans to review his research and key questions about rolling out both types of cameras district-wide. Right now, Wake County runs 27 stop arm cameras and will soon add five more to boost enforcement. No final decision yet on speed zone cameras. They're just exploring options with costs still unknown.
