Hey everybody, this is Pam with the Paper Outpost and today we are taking the review of how all that Mod Podge glob came out and I think it came out pretty good. It's been less than 24 hours I'd say and let's see if I can give you a closer inspection here. So what I have is a very smooth surface. It does have relief on it. It does have elevation because of the things that I added but everything, like all the laces, batten down, all the little bits and bobs are batten down and nobody's going anywhere. Okay. So that's a good thing. I'm feeling very good about that. Okay, so I like the way this spine came out and I think I want to preserve that spine. I could punch right through the spine but I think I'll do a hidden spine with this particular journal and the back feels nice and smooth. There is a glossy finish because I used Mod Podge even I think the matte Mod Podge has a bit of a gloss to it but so you might want to do different techniques

if you want a non-glossy surface. You could paint over this with some matte jesso and matte clear jesso and that would knock down the shine things like that. But I like the shine. It actually looks like an amiled glass or something. I think it looks pretty cool. Now some of these little areas in here, I think the Mod Podge is still drying. So some of this white may go to clear once it fully dries but remember there's a lot of white in the background here so that might be what shows. So I think it still has some drying and you can kind of tell by doing the slight push technique, very, very complicated technique but if it moves then you could still got some wet glue under there. So this is still drying. The top is dry but I won't monkey round with it too much. Okay so let me just think up a little bit. Okay and amazingly enough, I didn't do too bad on the inside. I really thought I had gotten all sorts of paint and stuff. There's a little bit here,

here, here and here because I'm a messy creature but I think I salvage these and I can probably sand these off or cover them with some embellishments or some inking. So I actually like the color of this antique vintage style paper on the inside so I might use that as the background but we shall see as time goes on. You never know. Things change fast around here. A couple other things I wanted to show you was do you remember when I punched out the picture? I had a... Are you stuck staring at your W2? Our tax refund worry is holding you back. You probably have FOMO, the fear of messing up. The fix? Using turbo tax on into a credit karma, they find every credit and deduction to help you get every refund dollar you deserve or your money back. It's time to overcome your fear of messing up and get your taxes done right. Start filing today in the credit karma app. Photograph and old photograph and I wanted to use the man sitting there or the girl can't

remember but here's the negative of that and I thought that would actually look cool as a negative design that could put something in here and you know see if you ever wanted to use your paper punches or popping things out of old pictures you can do that and then you get two pieces you get the positive and the negative to use and you're crafting. Okay so I know some of you are saying I would never punch my old pictures and that's okay but I'm not personally bonded to these people on these pictures because I don't know them and I've got lots of them. So these are from May 1962 so it's it's okay for my heart it's all right now if it was you know grandma or something I would probably wouldn't use the original so there you go all right so I'm just going to build a hidden spine and basically what I do is I'm going to take a strip of chipboard or cardboard or something that's got some stiffness to it I'm going to measure in here what would fit. Okay I'm going to go down about a quarter of an inch and here and then maybe to here so let's try that this is me

trying to minimize measuring I'm going to use my craft mat to assist move it up here maybe all right I'm going to put that dot on a line but keep it flush across the top that way I should end up with a straight piece when I cut down so this line is is here okay I can see the line extending here grabbing the ruler under all this stuff okay and putting it here about halfway across the dots and that should put you right on the line there's always on the line to the right of the line and to the left of line and that makes a big difference when the millimeters matter in life so just be wary of that and I'm taking my craft knife that looks better at the bottom person maybe slow and firm and then this way flush at the top

we put the dot on okay so I'm headed for that line I really didn't need to do the bottom line because the line on the craft mat tells me where to go okay so I'm here and here I'm checking if you can see me yep okay all right so how's everybody doing are you doing dandy today I hope I was well in your world I hope you're having fun okay retract your craft knife don't stab yourself okay so here I have this nice little piece of cardboard and one of my favorite ways to decorate these guys is grab my little paddle brush dober thingy and maybe I just want to go over all the back of it let's see it's white and black and brown and black maybe I'll work with brown and black and maybe all around these edges sure why not you can round these you can leave them straight

doesn't matter I like the softness of the rounding of the edges good one side might show a bit most of this won't show at all because it's going to be buried inside the book but okay so is that black it looks very dark because it's walnut stained okay um let me just go over all with this and just give it knock it down a little bit make it a little bit more brown to begin with I think I need to wake this up okay yawning it's waking up there we get a lot more color that way and it's okay with me if it's not completely um covered because I'm going to put some designs on top of it but what I would recommend is where's my little my little baby brown dober there you are make sure you get the edges of this because the edges will show and this is a good thickness I

would say um you can use thicker I wouldn't go much thinner if you're going to use this because you're mounting your signatures onto this as opposed to the actual spine and this piece will be glued holding all the signatures into this spine that's basically the hidden spine technique I use it serve me well as long as you use a decent amount of very strong glue to hold it in you should be fine okay so let's we've done that that's with the walnut signature dark brown and then I'm going to take maybe this leaf stencil and just have some fun with it here with the black okay this one can handle this one is called my my uh my go to what I've used it for practically as all the dark colors so I was going to go ahead and use the same one if you want to keep your inks pure use a different one for everyone I don't mind combing the link a bit it's okay with me um okay well lower down here maybe

okay so now we have something looks like that it's kind of pretty a little a little something up here like I said we don't really see a lot of this so I wouldn't wouldn't over fuss on this don't go crazy but to give it a little something if you want to do that and maybe um since we did use the copper colored building uh wax on the front I take a little bit of this and you should always wear a hazmat suit when you use dipping into anything that my hazmat suit is at the cleaners right now but uh why because you could grow a third eye that's right that's right you heard it here folks all right well sometimes an extra pair of hands wouldn't hurt you know what I mean um all right and then you can you can like make little marks on it like throughout spread the coppery color throughout and I think that just builds a very attractive piece of artwork okay so very simple in the background

uh I'm going to grab my little baby wipes because you know I often need those the finger the finger okay okay all right so now we're going to do the test I should have done the test first I was so I was so cocky pants thinking everything fits where's my journal it is and um I might need to shave it down because it might not fit let's see let's see how well I did see the big test is not laying it down in here which it is going to fit the big test is folding it and it does fold easily so you want to make sure that your journal closes easily and it does we have scored one for Pam okay so now the question is how many signatures and I would say this book can do three or four signatures depending on how much how many pages are in each signature how thick the pages are and how much I want to

decorate so I'm thinking this would be a three hold a three hold a three signature thingy and you can I like to go down about an inch let's put one in the middle born over here and one over here keeping it in a little from the sides because you don't want them jamming up against the walls too much and then um both halfway down and I have to eyeball that one you can make templates if you feel more comfortable I generally I I used to make templates initially and then I'm like I can just punch these things one inch up from the bottom can see that here where am I looking looking about a little less than halfway across this guy and there we go now I would recommend maybe um this is my top as my leaf is pointed out

but somehow that you know your orientation it's important so that's the point of leaf up this is a laying down leaf instead of writing a tea or something there um you can put it on the back but sometimes you're working on the front and you need to the front eat more easily so make give yourself some type of you can put a paperclip or something like that there that will work too now getting out our old friend crocodile to big bite all right so now I'm just going to punch see if I can get you so you can see a little better all right all right okay so I'm looking from the side and I'm going to use the skinny uh the skinny one that's the one eighth not the three sixteenth with just the chubby one full puncher that and these are selected at the top so go for what did I what did I say I'm going for the one eighth that's the one I want not the three did I say three sixteenth not that what I want to go for the one eighth okay so now I'm putting this on the side and I'm just making sure right over the hole right over the dot and punch and punch

and punch and then here we're going to punch and punch and punch and punch and punch okay almost a little off that's okay um and then we're going to turn this around punch a little off you can still work with a lot off you have to repunch or remake the thing or um like type of thing so I think that's going to be okay I might make that one just a little bit further and make the smidge bigger but more in the right place okay so those are my holes okay not perfect but not bad in the grand scheme of things okay so now we have this now we need some papers okay so I have 12 papers here let me orient you down a little bit okay just random some coffee dyed avocado dyed some old ledger style paper some old college rule paper that I've died

things like that stenciled some very fun let me just check the orientation of my my pages are going to be this this is my top so to be a two is come home to Disney plus let's go get ready for a new case and your last name the snake dream team new habitants who to be has a secret reptile population you can watch the record breaking phenomenon at home so to be a two now available on Disney plus rated PG right now you can get Disney plus and hulu for just 499 a month for three months with a special limited time offer ends March 24 after three months plan auto renews at 1299 a month terms apply I'm gonna turn this around so I can do it cut easier that's still good the writing is the right way while pages times four okay we'll give you how many pages friends and back so 12 times 448 and now we're going to fold this bone folders really handy here

and now we're gonna do a little trimming but I'm gonna do all the trimming at the same time so all the pages come out the same so here's one signature there's gonna be three of these I have another set of papers you know orient you this way I think I'm actually gonna put you nope I'm gonna put you that way you look upside down and remember I put you that way okay user right this one I think I'm gonna flip over I have that little nub at the top so it's easier to cut off I could even leave it there it's kind of cute don't always have to remove nubs nope okay I think somebody gave me this paper it's really pretty thank you okay there we go initial fold final creasing with the bone folder I give such a nice crease you don't have one I highly recommend getting one you can buy him on ebay amazon all the kind of stuff there we go there's

number two and here's number three okay sure my little nub is there all my orientations of my paper this is important to check at this moment good idea okay assembling handling tapping why is this one sticking out sometimes oh because it's got the roughly tap that's okay I'll put you I kind of like the spiral thing you know I have no aversion to it that makes this paper a little taller but I might end up trimming that off we shall see okay align the edges okay flat initial crease bone folder super crease there you go there we go okay so this one is a different color on the outside so I might make that middle signature and then so I've got it it's looking like that it's looking like that tap tap tap make sure all of these are

aligned that's very important okay the back spine should be aligned well and when you got that aligned well go ahead and put some clampies on here as we're going to do some daunting okay we're going to do some marking okay so now we have all these aligned and here is our hidden spine this is the top so now I'm going to take this and I'm going to position it evenly so the same amount above as below because that's what's going to no I have to cut this down this is not the right size yet this is too big no can I cut wait wait wait hang on up first we are going to make sure this whole clump fits in here so they are all aligned and open up my book and I'm going to place this about a quarter inch from the bottom okay and I'm going to snuggle it in okay it's going to protrude a little bit further than this that way because I'm going to have the

hidden spine in there and that's going to take up a little bulk room so it hangs out a smidge not much um but I'm taking that into account now you can tap down and then look at oh okay tack down and look at your bottom it's all the way to the bottom you probably want to translate that thing up at least a quarter of an inch so it doesn't like hang you can do the hangout style but this isn't the hangout style this is the regular okay so an easy thing to do okay um let me just okay so about a quarter of an inch up and then you can do this a couple ways but I'm going to look like a quarter of an inch in here make a little mark okay and are you a quarter inch up your quarter an inch up okay that's so get me the right size here I probably need to shave off some off the edge here so I'm going to maybe take it back to about

here I think that should do me well but first I'm going to well I'm not going to know where that is because I'm going to have to put it below here okay maybe a little over there okay now we're going to cut we're going to cut the top off and that's what we're going to do we're going to cut all three signatures at the same time um keeping them all snuggled and straight this is the most important part that if they didn't they migrated go ahead and um you can clamp them again sometimes to well where did you go what are you doing way over there my my little camera thing thanks my phone it's heavy all right all right so we're going to go this way we're going to okay make sure they're all aligned align it up the top across you can move this guy down a little bit so I can get the ruler in here and my ruler is is that my ruler no

where's the ruler now I can't have gone far I was right here there it is and here we go and somebody asked me if I had ADHD maybe you never know um okay so we're doing that we're making sure that dot is there aligning with about the same with there we're holding down firmly using craft knife one if you have a sharp blade the craft knife will do the cutting for you just kind of draw it across and you will feel the signature once you get through a signature it will let go it's probably one done this one this blade is not super sharp so that's why it's taken a little longer to get through but it goes through really fast when it's sharp yeah this is another classic case of do as I say not as I do go slow you don't want to lose a finger and you can cut these separately but I find that they come out nice and even when you do them all together retract okay you have all this wonderful paper to decorate with those beautiful straps

and then we're going to shave off a little bit on the side okay let's try this I'm not sure we're going square um I'm about a quarter of an inch in from that line with a quarter of an inch in from that line a quarter of an inch there a little more right there okay I'm feeling good about that let's hope here we go committing and you got to be you want to protrude your craft blade far enough so that you can get through the whole stack and then just go slowly firmly after little papers pop off everything's going well yeah we'll see a bunch of these fall away

there you go all right move few more of those over there already are you making a book today today's a great day to make a book make a book for a friend for yourself for you if I'm running into Mike the yellow edge just I have to extend it a little further so I can cut nice and flush sure this that's because this is blade is not okay yeah should change the blade pan okay see if I got right I feel like I'm running over something oh yeah that was messy there we go almost all right all right there's something no wait wait it took off like one little thread hanging on okay I think I got it all right there we go so now we have this and this very smooth very nice very smooth

very nice very nicely aligned what a set of signatures to go into this book okay let's see how it did I have to move this obviously because I can't put it in there to test but let's see I think that's going to go really well and we're going to have the spine in there so technically it'll go back this far but it'll be advanced just a little bit forward because of the hidden spine so it should be in the perfect location it all goes well okay so now one extra little tip before we sew these in we're going to get our old friend standing block this here and this is a nice way to soften up where are you going where are you going what what are you doing all right hang on well I hope I don't click off accidentally I do I love you all have a great day I'm still here we're still here okay apparently I'm okay okay all right all right all right take this and I sand these slightly I don't know it gives us this nice

sweaty weathered sort of feel if you have any little individual bumpies here this can sometimes smooth them all out take away any of those little issues you might have this little dust paper but it just feels like by that swayed butter that's what it is it's swayed butter there's such a thing and you might notice next time you go into a bookstore feel the edges of some old books they often have a soft finish different finishes in different edges but you might find some that are soft you might like it too yeah all right that's very nice there you go that's what we have so we are going to pause here get our little snuffer pants and then we will finish hopefully in getting that journal ready tomorrow coming with me let's where are you sitting on your white pillows in the sun I'm sorry are you sitting on your white pillows in the sun I'm sitting on my white

pillows in the sun it's what I do I'm very good at everybody should sit endless okay I will hang on I will give the fold for it hello everybody sunshine I would like to express to one and all this is canine reporter cub reporter cub pup reporter yes I've demoted myself back to a pup I don't want to get too old too fast I want to be a pup forever um okay so there I was laying on the pillows having a little nap my favorite place of all and I really highly recommend that all of you get some nice white fluffy pillows and put them in a sun patch and snuggle up on them nothing like it it's bliss and um it's it's like it's like so good it's almost better than chicken almost better than what it's on your face what's that hey I put it there it's there for

take no I like don't take it away mom please leave it alone leave it alone I can't I can't it's like a thing okay did I get it I don't know you're not camera ready what happened I escaped a nice snack um apparently I'm still extremely sleepy but I will pull myself together for the pup date so get out your white fluffy pillows and nap on them that is my message to all today I love you all happy crafting carry on sunshine out okay thank you sunshine all right well there you go folks another happy wishful day to all of you if you don't know I have a free monthly emailed newsletter the link is down below in the description box you can sign up for that you there's a free B section at the bottom where you get a free digital image new one every month checklist of supplies it which is eight pages to look to keep your eyes open for as you're traversing junk journal world a note from the bookmaker which explains what a junk journal is and how to use it and you can
