《柏林谍影》出版于1963年，出版后广受好评，当年即获得英国犯罪作家协会“金匕首奖”，后又获得“爱伦·坡奖”。2005年，获得“金匕首奖”50周年最佳小说。是史上公认最佳间谍小说之一。
约翰·勒卡雷（1931—2020），英国著名间谍小说作家。年轻时即被英国军方情报单位招募，从事对东柏林的间谍工作。1959年进入英国外交部，同时开始写作。亲身经历过柏林墙的修建和倒塌。《柏林谍影》是他的第三部作品，也是成名之作。代表作《锅匠、裁缝、士兵、间谍》《间谍的遗产》《夜班经理》等。
