VIR-5500 Shrinks Prostate Tumors, Offers Hope

Researchers found it shrank tumors in some patients and sharply reduced key cancer markers. Developed by VR Biotechnology, the drug targets men whose cancer no longer responds to standard treatments. This treatment works by linking the body's killer T-cells directly to tumor cells, but it only activates inside the tumor itself. That design cuts down on side effects compared to similar drugs. In the Phase I trial, 58 men received the drug, starting at low doses and ramping up. At the highest levels, for 17 patients, 14 saw their prostate-specific antigen levels dropped by at least half.
