Vikings Restructure Hockenson's Contract, Create Cap Space

The Minnesota Vikings have decided to keep tight-end TJ Hawkinson on the roster by restructuring his contract instead of releasing him. This move creates $5 million in cap space for the 2000-26 season. Details of the deal show his original cap hit was set at $21,296,000 next year. That included a base salary of $15 million, $400,000, plus roster and workout bonuses. Hawkinson joined the league as the eighth overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2019 and got traded to Minnesota in 2000, 22. Last season, he played 15 games with 51 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. His top year was 2023 when he had 95 receptions for 960 yards in five scores. The team has released several veterans lately to free up room under the cap. This comes after they went all in last year to build around Ricky quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
