Veterans Find New Skills in Drone Training

Veterans in Texas are getting a boost into civilian jobs through a drone training program at Veterans Outpost. This non-profit retreat in Greenville spans 50 acres and hosts the Vets to Drone's initiative, teaching skills in a fast-growing industry. The program comes from Marine Veteran Chris Lewis, who first encountered drones during his service in Afghanistan around 2011 or 12. Now he trains others on commercial drones, racing models, and big agricultural ones used for crop spraying, inspection, and mapping. Vets from all branches and errors show for hands-on practice and that strong sense of brotherhood they miss after leaving the military. One Navy vet with 25 years of service, drove from Austin, and said it helped him feel found again after struggling post-retirement.
