Van Driver Jailed for Killing Student

0:00On March 6, a van driver in London has been sentenced to 8 years in prison after a crash that killed a 20-year-old university student sitting on a bench. Christopher Jackson, 27, from South Hampton, lost control of his van on the strand near King's College London last March 18. He smashed through an iron gate which injured two pedestrians, then drove over a flower bed and struck Alia Muhammad, who died at the scene. His Muhammad, from South London, was a second-year student studying physics and philosophy. Her family remembered her as a bright and loving young woman, full of promise. Jackson had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, plus two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. On Friday at the Old Bailey, the judge handed down eight years for the death, with three year terms for the injuries to run at the same time. He will serve two-thirds of his sentence before possible release on license, face a driving van of five years plus time in custody, and retake his, Drowing Test.
