Right now, the U.S. imports over half its supply, with just one full-scale mine running in Nevada, while Australia and Chile dominate production, and China handles most refining.
At a 50% confidence level, this is a promising resource, but it's not a guaranteed reserve individual deposits need more exploration. Turning it into mines could take a decade or longer, and as of August 2025, only three projects were under construction. President Trump signed an executive order back on March 20, 2025, to speed up permitting on federal lands and unlock financing. Tools like the Defense Production Act, this could boost domestic supply as demand skyrockets, reshaping our battery metal game for the long haul.
