Used To Being Miserable

Brian, again, your lunatic friend, you ever find yourself so used to being miserable that you actually feel more comfortable around it?

I had a counselor telling me once, Brian, sounds like you're in love with misery.

Well, I am a songwriter, and if you're gonna get the real pathos out of a song, you're gonna have to soak in the sadness.

It's probably not as fun as a hot tub, but as the well-known prophet, Elton John says,

sad songs say so much.

I've been known to wallow in the afterglow of one misery or another put to a good melody for weeks.

It's almost as fun as mud-wrestling.

My all-time favorite was that one-by-bony rate where she sings,

I can't make you love me if you don't.

I've been told it's cathartic to acknowledge the suffering, but then when do we move on?

I've told myself, hey, get over yourself, everybody else has.

Paul says in Romans that I consider the sufferings of the current time to not be worth comparing,

to the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Well, I'm waiting, oh there's a great attitude, find out what is pleasing to the Lord the Bible says,

and it adds sing and make melody in your hearts to the Lord praising him for all those good things.

I might have to find a new artist, or be one, or maybe we just need to flip the record over.

I've kind of worn the grooves out of this vinyl,

singing to the Lord a new song the Bible says,

I always took that to be an endorsement for not singing the old hymns.

You ever think that they might have called them hymns because they're about hym?

And what he might bring to your sad story?

I'm wondering if you stay too long in the same mood that it becomes a defective character?

In rehab, they told me,
