Urban Promise Winter Internship - Week 5 & 6

Hello peoples, and today I'm back. I would like to apologize for missing last week. I just didn't feel like recording an episode. I can't tell you why. I just didn't feel like it. So yeah, pretty much that was about it. So, I know and behind on Urban Promise updates. So, last week was, you know, same old, same old. Although we did get snow again Sunday, so that wound up knocking out like Monday.

1:05And we were able to continue the week as normal, you know, minus the Monday. But yeah, so snow day knocked out. One of the days of the week where as Urban Promise folk would be doing stuff. And let me see. So there isn't anything in particular that happened last week that caught my eye as it were. Did you do I last week there have been like the first camp night in a while. And the kids loved it. And you know, keep in mind this on Thursday. But like all of camp freedom was just totally tired, like, including me. Like, I don't know what happened. Just me and my site director Rebecca and all the other Urban Promise Freedom staff

2:05that were there. I kept freedom. We were just totally exhausted. And again, don't know why, but we were. And it showed because one of my housemates slash another site director, Phyllis, she had noticed it and was like, hey, you guys good? And I'm like, yeah, I just were all tired. We don't know why, but we're still trucking forward because, you know, we got to do this shop. So, you know, that was funny. And let's see, last week, what happened this week? Well, the week after the week that came before last week. Let's see. All right. And nothing stands out from like two weeks ago. Again, this two weeks ago. So, I have no active memory at the moment. That sticks out. But moving on to this week.

3:08So, this week was pretty good. You know, it was felt nice to be working at camp. And there's this little heart-like project that I'm doing with the kids. Or was doing with the kids on Tuesdays. Like that was like my little art option, art class thing that the kids do on Tuesdays at camp. And they loved it. And one of the kids made like three separate hearts. And like had made the prettiest color of purple. And yeah, the kids enjoyed it. And they were just having fun. And I'm glad the kids, you know, got to enjoy themselves. And this Thursday, ooh. So, this is actually more interesting because, you know, it's not just usual typical urban promise stuff. So, there's this thing called the silent auction.

4:08And essentially, urban promise just gets a bunch of items and knits. And we sell them at like a silent auction to our, you know, two of the people that support urban promise to any of the people that invited. And even staff can buy auction items if they so choose. So, you know, that's pretty cool. And on Thursday, there was like an auction call night. Like essentially, everybody, you know, all the urban promise staff had to like start their calls at the very least. Because we have to have all those calls wrapped up by this coming Monday. So, yeah, I went there. I went to Rick's Rock. Well, I was already at Rick's Rock. But, you know, I was already at Rick's Rock and can't wrap up. And my site director, Rebecca, was doing family visits.

5:10Like she decided to do family visits and then do her calls later. And I was like, I'll just do the calls now and try to get as many as done as possible. And I wound up actually getting all my calls done. I had to send like a couple of emails, like three of them, four of them had to send emails for because they either had like voicemail boxes that were full. Or ones that I just found confusing to navigate. Like, I can't describe it other than there's, there's a weird thing where there's like a corporate voicemail box. That gives the most confusing instructions or it doesn't beep when it's supposed to beep. So, I don't know if I'm actually going to be able to leave a voicemail. So, I just don't do that and just send an email because of the very least it's in writing and the person has to get it. So, there's no way you can say that you didn't get it because it literally showed up in your email right there.

6:17And Friday was nice. Friday we, I was like a easy wrap-up day like for me it was like everything wrapped up at like two, forty, three o'clock-ish. And yeah, it was good. I was able to get like the rest of the day off pretty much and it was nice and chilling all that. I mostly did some writing and just, you know, play D&D on my phone. Like, I use this AI D&D thing so that way I can just do D&D and then not have to worry about scheduling around people or getting driven to certain locations so I can do D&D. Like, you know, I know some people don't like AI and I'm not fond of it either. But in my honest opinion, I think AI could work if you're just using it for like role play D&D.

7:18I'm just doing some something stupid and fun and silly sort of thing. Like, it could work if you're doing it like that because, you know, sometimes you don't have time to plan D&D stuff or sometimes you might just be bored and might want some stimulus. So, you know, doing a role play thing like, you know, like, you know, you're actually doing a role play chat thing with friends. That's something that will give your brain a little stimulus. And yeah, like, I think AI could work if you just do that or if you need help like setting up, like, I know some people in college like they would use AI, not on their assignments, but to essentially help generate a list of ideas. Like, if you use AI just for role playing or just to help generate ideas like, oh, I want to write an essay on women's rights in the 1600s or something. Like, that would be a good use of it because in the case of role playing, you're using it for something silly and dumb and stupid and or it's just something that's fun.

8:26So, you're not trying to do anything in particular. You're just trying to give your brain something to do. And then, you know, as for the idea generator, the idea generator idea is just to help you kind of get a starting point for an essay or whatever. So, yeah, personally, I do not like how people themselves use AI like to cheat and stuff. But there are some good applications of using AI bots slash chats that I think some people kind of ignore because, you know, I know it becomes a political thing, but it's like not everything needs to be a political thing. You know, there's already enough political stuff going on in the world. Can't we have one goofy silly thing around that's just, you know, chill? I mean, I assume that isn't too much to ask. But regardless, you know, I did that and did some D&D AI chat fun thing.

9:31And Saturday, like, you know, today, today was a bit of an, I won't say busy day, just more of them for the usual for a Saturday for me. So, it was, you know, woke up, all chill and nice. And then I went on this time spent thing and I'm sure I mentioned it before, but time spent is when me and Rebecca pick like one to two kids and we just bond and hang out with the kids and just let the kids have fun with, you know, other kids at camp that they may not have a chance to normally hang out with. And it was pretty good. The kids Rebecca and I got McDonald's. The kids got to play around at this park and, you know, they had fun with it. It was nice. They loved it and they started playing with this other kid that was slightly older and they were just playing tag and chilling and the children are funny.

10:32Like, they can just pick up friends like their Pokemon. It's just, you know, it's easy for them like to pick up friends and to bond and to make those lifelong friendships. Meanwhile, as an adult, that's a bit harder. But, you know, I'm glad the kids had fun and it was actually a pretty nice day. It wasn't as hot as I would have liked it. Like, it was 51 degrees, but it felt like almost 60. So, you know, the weather was nice enough to just shell out there in the sun for a bit after doing the whole time spent thing. But, you know, after a minute, it started to get a bit chillier and I'm like, well, the sun's going to set in like an hour or two. So, you know, makes sense. And, oh, almost forgot. So, well, first, the one thing I almost forgot. So, usually I do a life skills on Thursday, but that isn't going to happen this week.

11:38And, I think next week, because, well, this week at the very least, it's like, there's a concert that's going to happen. And it's not a big concert, but it's like, think of it as like a biblical concert thing for the kids. Like, the kids get to listen to this biblical music that's performed by this band. That Bethany, you know, my boss, managed to like hire of sorts and gets, you know, to end the band is going to visit each of the camps. So, yeah, that's going to be nice, but that's going to knock out life skills because, of course, you can't do life skills, you can't be teaching when there's a band that's right there. Like, that's going to be distracting. So, yeah, life skill ain't going to happen this week, which I'm relieved for because as much as I love doing life skills, it's still kind of stressful to stand up there and to teach to the kids.

12:38It feels like I'm on display, even if, you know, that's not how it feels. And it's a weird feeling because I'm both excited and somewhat terrified. So, yeah, that'll be a nice break. And again, next week, potentially, I think that's when the auction is going to happen. And the way the auction works is that it's going to happen on a Thursday. So, it'll be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, those are regular days of the week. But then Thursday, that's when there's going to be no camp. So, you know, naturally no life skills, because I teach that during camp. So, that would knock out Thursday. And then Thursday would just be all about the auction moving here, there, everywhere, helping out with the auction, chatting with people there at the auction, et cetera, et cetera. You know, that's how it would work. So, there's a chance that I might get two weeks off on life skills, which would give me, you know, extra time to plan.

13:41I mean, I am pretty good at planning anyway. So, I can plan like that. But still, having those two weeks off, just to not think about it for a bit will allow me to generate more ideas. And, and oh, oh. So, after the auction and, you know, all that wraps up, then us folks over and promise will get the Friday off, like just the camps, not the schools or anything, but just the camps. We'd get the day off because we would have spent yesterday setting up everything and doing all this stuff. So, naturally, we'd be pretty tired. So, yeah, Friday day off. So, that would give us a long weekend until, until Monday, of course. And, that's all I really got to say. Tomorrow, I'm going to be doing some driving lessons after almost, no, no, no, not even almost after a month, probably more of not having driving lessons because snow and stuff kept canceling them.

14:51So, that's going to feel nice. I'm excited to get back on the wheel. So, yeah, driver lessons tomorrow. I'm going to do my best.
