一般来说，可数的那些名词既有单数的形式，用来表示一个；也有复数的形式，用来表示多个。例如cup表示一个杯子，cups表示多个杯子；school表示一个学校，schools表示多个学校；shirt表示一件衬衫，shirts表示多件衬衫等等。
但是有些名词只有复数的形式，也只使用复数的形式。例如clothes衣服，pants裤子，leggings紧身裤，shorts短裤，overalls工作服。但是underwear是个例外，既有一个也有多个。还有glasses眼镜，scissors剪刀。
