On March 6th, University of North Carolina freshman forward, Caleb Wilson suffered a broken right thumb during a practice drill on Thursday, March 5th. The injury requires surgery and he'll miss the rest of the season. He had just returned from a previous broken bone in his left hand from a game at Miami on February 10th. That side-mine him for Carolina's last six games, but he got clear for workouts late last week and was ramping up when the new injury hit during a dunk attempt. Wilson has been the Tar Heels top score at 19.8 points per game and leading rebounder with 9.4 per game. He's earned two national player of the week honors and three ACC freshmen of the week awards this season. Carolina sits at 24 wins and six losses overall, 12 and 5 in the ACC. They've locked in a double buy for the conference tournament and face Duke on the road Saturday at 6.35 pm before quarter final action in. Charlotte on Friday, March 12th at 9.40 p.m.
With Wilson out, the Tar Heels will lean on their depth heading into these key matchups, testing their resolve down the stretch.
