Ukraine Boosts Gas Imports Amid Russian Attacks

The country has started filling its massive underground storage facilities to gear up for the next heating season. Over the weekend, Ukraine began regular injections at an average of about 130 gigawatt hours per day. On Thursday, it plans to bring in 25.2 million cubic meters, including 10.2 from Poland and 8.4 from Hungary. It's a total of 26.1 million on Wednesday. These near-daily strikes on energy infrastructure have hit front-mine areas hard since last autumn, forcing big changes in how Ukraine uses gas. Consumption dropped 4% last year to 21 billion cubic meters, with households accounting for about 36%. Storage facilities, some of Europe's largest, stood at nearly 16% full as of March 17.
