UK Population Peaks Earlier, Drops by 2054

They now say we'll hit a peak of 72.5 million people in 2054, then start dropping 40 years earlier than the old. As to mid of 2096, England's numbers will top out just over 72 million that same year, marking the first ever decline there after steady growth. Across the UK, other spots peak sooner too. Wales hits Max in 2035, way ahead of 2077. Scotland's top in 2033, only seven years out, not 2051. Northern Ireland peaks in 2031, two years earlier than before. This shift comes from net migration slowing big time, dropping to 230,000 a year from 340,000. The overall picture shows slower growth ahead from 69.3 million in 2024 to 71 million by 2034, a million less than forecasted.
