UK Lawmakers: Prepare for NATO Without US

On March 27, a group of U.K. lawmakers is warning that Britain and its European NATO allies

need to get ready to defend the continent without counting on the United States.

They say long-held assumptions about American forces leading any major fight

are no longer safe, given the shifting priorities out of the White House.

Tensions between President Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government

could put key U.K. security at risk, like the upkeep of Trident Nuclear.

alliance. An hour, he's dismissed Starmer as unlike Winston Churchill,

raising doubts about Washington's commitment to NATO's Article 5 mutual defense pledge.

NATO's top commander in Europe has always been American, providing essentials like

satellite support and electronic warfare that Europe lacks on its own.

The U.K. faces extra vulnerability because of its deep special relationship ties,

including new submarine plans dependent on U.S. help.

Lawmakers urge ongoing U.S. collaboration where it works,

but stress-building European-led NATO strength through investments with partners like Canada.
