UK Introduces V-Levels: New Vocational Qualifications

0:00On March 10th, the UK government has unveiled V-levels, a new vocational qualification designed as an alternative to A-levels for 16-year-olds. After GCSEs, these courses, equivalent to 1A-level, will launch next year in education, finance, and digital fields, aiming to eliminate snobbery in, post-16 education, and offer clearer career paths. Students can mix V-levels with A-levels or T-levels, the two-year technical options, equivalent to three A-levels. Current-year nine pupils will be the first to take them, with more subjects like business, construction, engineering, and health potentially rolling. Out by September 2028, pending confirmation, for lower-attaining students, new one-year foundation certificates in education and digital, will prepare them for A, V, or T-levels, while two-year. Occupational certificates in catering and education lead to apprenticeships or jobs. A consultation is underway for stepping stone qualifications to help with English and Maths GCSE results focusing on practical skills first.
