UGA Honors Kara Braxton, WNBA Veteran

0:00Here's more Durham news for March 1st. The University of Georgia Women's Basketball team honored former player Cara Braxton after her death at age 43. Before Sunday's game against Florida, on March 1st, the Bulldogs placed her number 54 Jersey and arose on the bench to remember the forward, from their 2004 Elite 8 squad. Braxton left UGA that same year after some team issues, the Detroit Shock then picked her in the 2005 WNBA draft. She won two championships with them before the team moved to Tulsa and later became the Dallas Wings. Meanwhile, the WNBA shared their sadness over losing the 10-year veteran who also suited up for the Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty. Her old teammate, Planet Pearson, remembered their time together on the shock and liberty, saying the loss felt unreal. Braxton, a Michigan native, died February 21st in a single car crash in Georgia. She veered out of her lane, hit a concrete median and passed away at a Marietta hospital.

Jelani, a tight end, just won a national title with Ohio State football and transferred to North Carolina. Braxton had planned to return to UGA in 2026 to finish her degree, inspired by him.
