3:02Very pleasant evening, everybody. Greetings from the renovated original Montgomery and home of the world's greatest ribs. Welcome to a special edition of the UC coaches show. We heard in the intro the Scott Satterfield show, but it's more than that tonight. We're splitting it up into half football, half basketball. It's our final radio show of the year. We are going to introduce you to a couple of new UC coaches. In the second half hour of the show, it'll be the new basketball coach, Jared Calhoun. Look forward to catching up with Coach Calhoun. But in the first half hour of the show tonight, we are joined by the new defensive coordinator for the UC football team. Let's hear it for Nate Woody. Thank you. Coach, welcome to the show. You know, I was down in Charleston, South Carolina. I was playing tennis and a buddy of mine that was playing with,

4:03say, if you ever get an opportunity to go to the Montgomery end, you got to go over there and have some ribs. There you go. So I'm here. All right, you are here. Hopefully you'll have some ribs. If not tonight, sometime soon, what if anything about working at UC so far has been even better than you expected, whether it's the program, whether it's the city of Cincinnati, whatever? You know what, when I got here, I joined along with the rest of the coaching staff into a, I guess, a weight loss contest. And then that weight loss contest, we were pretty competitive. So a good out every evening and go walk around Cincinnati, you know, out, you know, the ballpark, over into Covington, over the bridges. I met so many people out there who I was walking. And it was doing some pretty good. You know, I think, I thought I was actually going to win that competition. But after those ribs tonight, I think, weight's going right back on. I think I'm going to lose that thing.

5:04But along the way, I got out and I got to meet a lot of people that were just incredibly friendly, such a friendly place. You know, love the city, love, love Cincinnati, and our players have been outstanding. They're attitude towards practice. It's just like going into a ball game. You know, it's a, it's outstanding. All right, we've done a couple of minutes so far in the show. And I've done a crappy job because I forgot to introduce the other person who's up on the stage, what has tonight been good. He doesn't need much of an introduction. He's one of the best players in UC football history, inducted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame last year. Let's hear it for former Bearcat. Cornerback, Tony Bight. Thanks, Dan. You bet. Coach, not only acclimating yourself with the city, you also get a chance to come into a new state of the art facility. How easy does the indoor practice facility make your job on a daily basis as you're trying to recruit

6:04and learn about your new team and implement a new system? You know, the indoor facility is outstanding. You know, being able to hold our practices there and our workouts, every time I look out the back of my office is a window and it looks out on the practice field. I'm looking out there at players that just spend all day out there. You know, if they don't, at some point they go to class. You know, they take care of the business there. But those guys are out there using that field all the time. As such, there's so many great things that we can use to help their development. And, you know, it's been really good. You know, we'll go outdoors just a little bit. Maybe hopefully this so this weekend we get into Nippert and get to play. But most of what we've been in the indoor and the field, I don't know that I've been in a better facility anywhere. You've had 14 spring practices. The final one will be the spring showcase coming up on Saturday.

7:05Unfortunately, the forecast doesn't look very good for Saturday. The game is scheduled for Nippert Stadium at 12 o'clock. If the weather is terrible, obviously they would have to move that indoors into the indoor practice facility. There'll probably be an announcement on that tomorrow. But in any case, let's talk about spring football so far. You're obviously working with an entirely group, a new group of players. You're also working mostly with new coaches. You've worked with Coach, a satir field in the past, and a couple of guys that are on the staff. But what's that been like for you learning your staff and learning all these new players? I think some of the jobs that I've had previous to this, the one thing that I realized was, you want to get coaches that know your system. You want to get coaches that you trust, that they'll do a good job for you, and that you have a bit of a compliment amongst the different coaches. Not every coach has to be the same, but I love her staff. And I think both sides of the ball are offensive staff, or a lot of guys that I've worked with in the past.

8:06It's back in North Carolina that I've known for quite a while. And they're doing a great job during spring ball. My job is the hardest one out there, because offensively, they're lighting it up pretty good. But defensively, we're getting a little bit of pressure on the quarterback. You don't want to touch the quarterback during spring ball. The name of the game is to affect him, but during the spring, you're sort of going to take care of that quarterback and sort of peel off right before any contact's made. And then you get to evaluate what's going on on the back end. So those guys, in a secondary, how good a leverage they're playing in coverage. Lombackers, what kind of depth you get on your drops. Defense line wise, you're going to go against the offensive line, and then once you get back through, like I said, you're going to let that quarterback step up in the pocket and have his throw. So that's been really good. But defensively, the coaching staff

9:08is one that we draw off for one another. A lot of great ideas in that room. A lot of great voices that speak up and have experience. So I've really enjoyed being able to work with this staff. I got to work with Braswell at Army. And there's a quality control coach that came over from Utah that they get to work with a little bit. Utah has been known for a lot of pressure. Yes, they have great pressure packets. So it's really good to get will to come over and help out with this a little bit. So great staff on both sides of the ball. Talk a little bit about pressure, because I think as a quarterback, it's one of the hardest things to prepare for during the week and in games as well. Especially with a new system in place. You mentioned the offense being a little bit ahead right now. But talk about the pressure that you want to put on opposing quarterbacks and opposing offenses. I think quarterbacks now, especially in this league,

10:11if they're able to sit back and have a clear view of where they want to throw it. Have the time to do it. If they can go from one read to the next or from one side of the field to the other, you're going to have a tough day. And so from a coverage standpoint, I know that you've got to be in the right place at the right time, but that time's got to be limited. And getting pressure on the quarterback helps that coverage so much. So we want to be able to bring it from anywhere. From the linebacker depth, outside linebackers from safeties, twist games, anything that we can do. How much with that is what an opposing offense has to do? You think about during the season, you only get so many practices. If you've got so many different pressures and so many different looks, it becomes a lot more difficult to prepare in just the span of a week practice for your defense. I think one thing that really wanted to do was get into spring ball and teach guys basic fundamentals, but start with the zone and learn how to play a too high.

11:17Play cover two, play cover three, play quarters, play, cut the box and drop safeties down in the box. And then get into the pressure package. And hopefully along the way, if you start out with the zone stuff, you're learning fundamentals, and that's the name of the game. But when we get into the pressures, now you're affecting the quarterback, you're speeding things up, and that'll make it a lot easier on that backhand. Now, are we all doing everything right? Not quite yet, but we got a good look at a lot of different things this spring. Your base defense is a three-four, three-down line and four linebackers. Pittsburgh Steelers have played a three-four forever. One of those linebackers is going after the quarterback on almost every dropback. Is it similar for you? Yeah, it's a matter of fact, it's funny that you brought up the Steelers. When I first went to this defense, a guy named Dom Capers was head coach of the Carolina Panthers. And coach Capers had been the defensive coordinator at the Steelers,

12:22and it had come over, and he had great success. And he came over there, and we sort of shared facilities there when I was at Wofford College. He was his practice, or preseason practices there, at our place. We got to, he was very accommodating to us, just got to use notebooks, film, back then it was beta, but you got to see a lot of the practices, games, and all that stuff. And you got to get into some of the meetings with coaches that were there. And there were some great players, especially defensively, and one offensively. Tony was there with the Panthers? Absolutely. He was a young cat back then. But Kevin Green was there, so a great outside linebacker. A great guy to sort of talk to and learn the defense from. Sam Mills was an inside linebacker that was credibly bright, and had answers to a lot of questions that I had as a young coordinator.

13:26So, yeah, we're going to bring pressure. Some of it is based off of what the Steelers did, some of it's a little bit different, but a lot of it is from those Steelers. Foster construction is so different now. You're bringing in freshmen, you're bringing in transfers, you get 15 opportunities during the spring. How important we know about the coaching, how important are the leaders and the players on your defense from when Saturday ends to when you guys are going to get back together for summer camp? How important is it to now kind of hand the keys over to your leaders on defense to make sure you're improving between spring ball and summer camp? What a great question. I think if you're going to develop your unit nowadays, you're going to have to get great leadership from your defensive unit. Those guys are going to have to take control. They're going to have to run the player-led practices. They're going to have to help teach some of the younger guys that are still trying to learn

14:28assignment and the better they are at taking those guys under the wing and getting them to where they can catch on because assignment is one thing. If you're having to think about assignment, then you're not thinking about the opponent, you're not as fast and you're not getting to fulfill your potential. So getting those guys, getting great leadership, and I think we are developing great leaders over there. We've got guys that are stepping up and I'm really impressed and I came from a place where we had great leaders. So to be able to step here and see that here as well is outstanding. Okay coach, I heard this on the basketball legends unplugged. But they said, you know, one of the things about fifth third is that teams used to fear

19:36coming into fifth third to play us in basketball. What do we have to do to make teams fear to come into Nippert to play us in football? How can you and your defense do that? You know what? That's something that we've talked about to great and great detail. Our strength coach, Nico gets up there and talks about how, you know, when we take our field, that's something that we're going to defend and we're going to take great pride in it. So it's going to be a place where we love our home crowd. We want to make them happy. We want to defend our home turf and get after it and make it make it our home field advantage. All right. Next question. Coach, I'll be at all the home games and maybe in a way a game or two. But when something happens as a mistake on the defensive side of the football, when it happens, what's going to send you through the roof? What spectacular, what one thing is going to really stick in your gall the most.

20:39Number one, we don't make mistakes. There you go. Number two, I think those guys, they want to get after it and they want to win every bit as bad as I do. And during spring ball, it's like having a game every other day. And your body takes a lot of punishment because there's an awful lot of reps that we're taking every other day going against each other. We're getting a lot of reps against that offense. So I expect that by the time we get out of spring, all we're doing is polishing things up. We don't make mistakes. But if there was one, you know, if there was one, man, son of a gun, I would love to be great in the red zone. I'd like to be able to, if the ball got over our head and we chase it down, we got those guys down and they think they're going to score. I'd like to be able to take that opportunity away from them. I'd like to be the number one red zone team in the country. And when you get down there in the red zone,

21:43and you get stopped, that's a great momentum builder for your team. So no mistakes in the red zone. I've watched you quite a bit during spring football coach. You don't flip out that often. But it seems to me when you do get angry, it's when a guy makes a mental mistake, like getting lined up in the wrong spot or something like that. You know what? I think that right now there is a lot of mistakes because I'm pushing a lot of defense onto them. There's an awful lot of assignments that they got to learn and a lot of different variables during the course of a play. So I expect that there is going to be mistakes right now. So we want to get those out of our system, but I don't want to go into the first ball game with only 50% of our notebook. I'd like to push the guys mentally and get them to study hard and come out there. And I know there's going to be mistakes, but we're going to get them corrected. So I'm prepared for that right now. Brian's up next.

22:47Coach, you said you were on a 3-4. Was there a process of getting to that as being what your base defense is? And is that something that kind of fluctuates over your career? Do you specifically recruit to that? Or if you find a way that maybe we need to run a 4-3 or we just got to forbid the 3-3-5? Is there any kind of fluidity to that? Or is it strictly like we're 3-4 and that's it? I got to be honest with you. I didn't go to the 3-4 until 1990 6. So there was other fronts that I've coached. And we can get in and out of some different looks, whether it's an even front or odd or bringing extra guys up or overloads or things like that. I believe in being multiple. I believe that if you have a great disguise,

23:49you have different looks than sometimes offensive linemen going to screw up. But the biggest thing I want to do is get the quarterback to make a mistake. And if the quarterback can make a mistake, you got to make him pay for it. So interceptions, guys that you can put back there that'll catch a ball instead of just a PBU. So we'll show a lot of different fronts and coverages as well. All right, back to the bar. Fire away. Coach, we've seen recently in the college basketball world doing closed scrimmages before the actual season starts. In college football, there hasn't really been such a thing. Obviously in the NFL, we have preseason games. Is there any conversation especially implementing a new defense you would think it would be very helpful to get scrimmages against other teams involved? I think what was very helpful was I was at Michigan when the Connor Stallions was there. So Connor was a great young young man and maybe things got blown

24:50out of proportion quite a bit. But I do know that other schools want to get out there and they want to see what you got going. And that for us, keeping that under the lid a little bit is helpful. You know, the least amount of information that you give out to the other team means they got to work for it. And you want them to work for it as much as possible. All right, any more questions to the audience? Looks like Karen has one. I grew up in a military family. I grew up in West from New York. I've seen more army games and you can imagine, including when I lived in Baltimore, I saw Army Navy several times. And go Michigan. That was my late husband's whole family up there too. But coming from a service academy and coming to UC, what do you see is the difference? And I commend you because I think you would bring the discipline coming from the service academies and what they required down there. Yeah, I'll be honest with you. When I left Michigan to go to

25:55Army, I called my dad and I said, Dad, yeah, I'm going to take the DC job at Army. He said, great son, I'm proud of you. I'm going to pull for you every game, but one. So going into that tenure, I knew things were pretty strict. I think that leaving a place to where you talk about leadership every day with those guys, I think that's something that I took with me and brought here. And that's something that every unit meeting every every time I get in front of the team, I'm talking to them about leadership. And if you got great leaders, learn from a coach a long time ago. If you got great leaders on your team, then it's really, really hard to have a bad season. So I think we got some guys that are developing in to be great leaders. And those guys will help us

26:56become more and more disciplined on, you know, some pre-snap penalties and, you know, after-to-snap penalties. And I still got a little ways to go, but we're working. We're working at it. Thank you. We got time for one more question before we let you go. I want to turn the clock back to 2020. That was the year Cincinnati went undefeated during the regular season. They played Georgia in the pitch bowl. The fewest points that Cincinnati scored during the regular season that year was against your defense came into Nippert Stadium with Army. You held Desmond, Ritter, Alec Pierce, Jerome Ford, et cetera, et cetera, to 24 points in that game. They had 17 with about six minutes to go. What stands out to you about facing that great Cincinnati team and the way that you played that day? That we lost. Just like everybody else did to them. You know, I thought that I had great respect for the head coach, the offensive coordinator,

27:57the team that he put out on the field. And our kids were going to battle. They were going to fight hard. They had a couple of stops in the red zone. And they kept points off the board. And I think there was a little bit of pressure at times on Ritter. But I remember thinking, what a really special football team this is, we're playing against. And that was probably the most points we gave up, I think during that season. So they were great opponent. We just wish we had made one or two more plays. So now I'm glad we didn't. Well, Georgia would have lost the Cincinnati that year, if not for a 50 plus field goal with 10 second, less than 10 seconds to go. So it was obviously an incredible Cincinnati team. And you get the Bearcats. All they could handle that day at Nippert Stadium. We're thrilled to have you to have you here in Cincinnati. We look forward to watching your defense this Saturday in the

Currently 73 degrees. Israel and Lebanon agreeing to a 10-day ceasefire, although Israel

31:11depends for us to say they're still striking Lebanon because of a launch from Hezbollah. If that ceasefire stays in place and holds, it could better the chances of extending a ceasefire between the US and Iran outside the White House this afternoon. President Trump taking questions from reporters and believes that the US is close to a deal with Iran. President Trump says the second round of talks with Iran could take place as soon as this weekend insisting they are very close to making a deal. I asked the president if he would extend the ceasefire set to expire in six days. I would say the fighting if there's no deal fighter reserve. But five minutes later, the president saying he would be willing to extend the ceasefire after all. If we need to, I would do that. I also asked the president how long Americans will continue to see high gas prices. The president told me they're, quote, not very high. The average price of gas right now is more than $4 a gallon. That's up $1.11 since this war began. ABC News is Rachel Scott, a new trial date set for the Manacuse of striking and killing Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy with his vehicle last year. Rodney Hinton Jr. now goes on trial

32:12October 5th. It's after several delays to evaluate Hinton's mental health status. And due to a history of mental illness, he would not face a death penalty convicted. Hinton has entered a non guilty plea by reason of insanity to charges, which include aggravated murder. The reds this afternoon shut up on the giant screen, nothing to create American ballpark, but still take the series up next. A six game inner league road trip beginning Friday night when the reds take on the twins. The inside pitch will start our coverage at 710. First pitch 810 Brandon Williamson scheduled to be on the hill for the reds. In Cleveland, guardians pitcher Parker Messick took a no hitter into the ninth inning tonight against the Orioles, but that is since ended. The Columbus Blue Jackets bringing back Rick bonus as their head coach for the 2026 27 season on a new contract. Bonus was brought in out of retirement to be interim head coach in January when the team fired head coach Dean Evisson and Jane at that point, posting a record of 21 11 and five going forward, but the Jackets who were in playoff

I remember to introduce you right off the bat. So you have been making the rounds. I think I've listened to about 100 interviews that you've done over the past month or so and it's been great. You're very good at it. I'm determined to ask you one question off the top that you haven't been asked. Here goes. When you are a student assistant

37:27at the University of Cincinnati, how broke were you? Very broke. Yeah. I didn't have much at all. I could tell you that. Somebody robbed you. You practice another. Very broke. Yeah. That was my memory. So we got to know each other a little bit that year you were on the staff. The thing that really impressed me about you at the time was that you were incredibly wired in to the Ohio high school coaching scene, my recruiting scene. I should say you knew every player, you knew every coach. It's not the same now as it was then. That was critically important back then. That was the key to becoming a coach. Yeah. I still think it's going to be a big critical piece for us. I love development. I love taking high school players. I really believe we can get three or four, maybe five high school guys and groom them. We're trying to work on that right now. If you kind of follow the numbers in our recruiting, we're developing a bunch of really good young guys. It'll be part of this roster and develop them. I think the entertainment is going to be

38:31critical. That's how you build. Back then, coaching AAU basketball really gave me a jump start. I coached the Cleveland basketball club. You got to know a lot of players, a lot of coaches. I went to probably 15, 16 straight Ohio high school state tournaments. I thought that was the neatest thing down at St. John's back in the day and then obviously it moved to value city and now it's in Dayton. There's nothing like high school sports. In this area, we have so many great high school coaches that we got to make sure they stay here in Cincinnati. When you look at the guys that you're, I mean, you're on this world world. First of all, you won the press conference and you've been on this national podcast tour as Dan has said. You've won the podcast. So there's no questions that we can ask you that you're not prepared for. What I love about it is you give, I gave this analogy on my podcast. When my mom, we used to come in the house where hungry and the dinner wasn't ready and she would just throw a piece of food at us and say,

39:33here, take this and go back outside and play because we're not ready yet. You do that to everybody that you interviewed because you're like, I'm going to give you something, but I'm not going to give you everything to run with. Where did this mindset come from? I'm just trying to, you know, continue to do what you do build, but at the same time, give a little caution to make sure that, you know, you don't tell too much because just more to come. Yeah, I mean, I take Terry, first of all, I love the media. I think in this world today, social media. First of all, clap for the heat of the media. Hopefully they'll love me too. If I win enough game, if not, I'll run me out of town. No, the reality of it is so much we're doing in today's recruiting spaces, you know, social media. You know, that's how these kids kind of grew up. And, you know, I think when you, somebody's actually asking you a question, you got to answer it. And usually, people like brutal honesty, and that's really kind of how I was raised. So we do that in recruiting. We're not going to promise and we're not going to do this that. We're going to sell the

40:34University of Cincinnati our style, but it's been a lot of interviews. I can tell you that, and, you know, you just got to keep getting the word out on Cincinnati basketball. So, you know, keep pumping us up on that pond, man. Gotcha. The transfer portal is open. You have described it as portal combat. That's pretty good. You can wear a mask. There's a lot of different ones you can use. We cannot give any names yet, unfortunately, until they've signed on the bottom line. It's not something we can talk about on the radio, but we've got a lot of diehard fans here that have been following this stuff. How would you describe how it's gone so far, both in terms of how you've done and the needs that you still have? Yeah, I would say we're batting a very high percentage, you know, one out of 10. I would say nine out of 10, as I told you off air, Dan, we've pretty much got, you know, all of our targets. We typically do that, though, you know, back in the day, Coach Huggins gave me the best advice. You know, you can get so wrapped up in chasing guys that,

41:34number one, you can't get, but to us, it's all about fit. You know, everybody that we have identified brought in, it's amazing when you talk to the, not only the player, but also the people that are surrounding the player, right? Whether it's mom, dad, a, you coach, whoever it is, there's got to be one thing and one thing only that matters, and it's winning, right? At the end of the day, everybody in this room, we all want one thing. We want to win. And I think you have to identify guys that put winning at the forefront. We've been able to do that. So we're not done by any means. You know, my son has my phone. So at any time, I may have to step out and take a call. I don't know, but it's changing, you know, a lot of people complain about the portal. I've just posted up in our lounge, and I'm just sleeping there and sleeping about three hours a night. And, you know, but you got to be throw on your evaluations, not only through the film, but also your background checks. So in that, I mean, John Wooden said, you take the five best coaches, I'll take the five best players,

42:35and I'll beat you two nine or ten times. So you take players, and it's a lot of process to go through. It's a big process to find players that fit what you like to do. So you have to already have a system in mind how you would use the player. And then what kind of player would fit in that system? There is a million players across the globe. And you and your staff in a short amount of time, like you were shaking hands and signing autographs as you were shaking hands and taking pictures, you're in the scene now. What's the process that goes into trying to find a starting point guard, a starting center or somebody that runs your program? I think that's, yeah, that's really good. First of all, you sell what you've done in the portal. We're, we have 101 wins the last four years. We have three championships, three postseason. So you have to sell, you know, yourself, number one, you have to sell your style of play, then you identify every position, right? The point guard position. We want somebody that can come into this room and light it up, right? We want somebody to command the floor, command the practice leader. Yeah, a leader. I mean, you look at

43:37all the great Cincinnati teams, and we're showing these old videos. I'm walking the halls. You know, I just, I get chills, you know, and I get flashbacks watching the bear cats. So, you know, when you're tired, it's 4 a.m. or 5 a.m., what it was last night and the janitors are coming in, turning on the lights. You just, you know, you get up, you take your shower. Yeah, you just keep working because there's so many people here that you feel it, right? You feel the excitement. And then every position, right? So that's at the point, our wings, we want to be, you know, have positional size, length, skill, you know, the ability to switch, right? You talked a little bit about it on the podcast, being able to press at times, right? Speed people up. Our four man, we want to be really skilled and in our five, gotta be a rim protector. If you don't have one rim protector, you got at least have somebody on that roster that can do it, but the five is our connector. He connects the offense. You watch NBA, you watch European basketball the way we play. That guy is a connector, right? Whether it's setting ball screens, picking pop, reversing the ball,

44:40coming from low to high and then having the ability to score on the block. So then we want to have depth, you know, we're selling depth and, you know, kids know, we're going to play nine, ten guys because we'll be playing pretty fast. We'll be playing a lot of guys. So you got to build that depth as well. You're working with GM Corey Evans. Did you have a list of potential guys that you were interested in if they became available in the portal? Or are you working off his data? How is that working? Yeah, I have a lot of lists. You know, I'm really big on taking notes, really big on that. So number one, you always have an assistant coaching list, you know, if you're going to get a job, right? So I think the first order of business when we got here was establishing our staff, right? We're still not done with that. But then identifying, you know, what players we feel that can play in the big 12 and we had a whole list of guys. Obviously there's, you know, a few guys here today, you know, now it's today. So you can kind of do the math on that and do the process of that one. But yeah, I think you always have a list. The nice thing that, you know, Corey kind of

45:45jump started us on was his list, right? It's always good to have a couple list be collaborative and then get to work. And then that process is typically Zoom, right? We're back to Zoom calls, right? We thought in, what was it, 2019? Yeah, we thought that was gone. But do the Zoom, do they like you? And then you set up the visit. And then it's just rapid fire of getting them on campus and making sure we're prioritizing what they think is important. And then a cell division and try to get a commitment. Your son Gus is here. He has your phone. Do you have another coach in your blood? I know you got a group trying. Yeah, he's going to join our staff. He's going to be a student manager. Yeah, his nicknames Gus is real names Jordan. So you can call him whatever you want to. How did you get Jordan? Gus from Jordan. So he was named after Michael Jordan, true story. You know, obviously, it's amazing. I'm wearing this. I'm going to go by Gus too. I actually once I once told Michael Jordan this, it's a true story. I was in the room with it was

46:46me, Maverick and LeBron. I was there the first time LeBron met Michael Jordan. It was pretty awesome. I'm a star struck with MJ. I name my son after you know, so it's pretty neat to meet him. But yeah, he's really understanding how crazy this is because he's living it. He's here. Have you worked ethic? We'll see. To be determined, right? Let's take some questions from the audience and Phyllis is up first. Coach, welcome to Cincinnati. Again, many of us, maybe in this room, were able to see you through your strike at the Bearcats game the other night. And so I know that you've done a lot of interviews. What podcast did you go on from there to talk about your strikes?

52:10You know, I used to play baseball. I played up until about eighth or ninth grade and so yeah, I wanted to bring it over the head and didn't practice at all. So I was a little bit nervous when I got up there. But yeah, that was fun. It's a great stadium and they won. So maybe I can do it again. All right, Pete's there. No doubt. 10 run rolled them. All right, Bob, you're up next. I haven't seen a lot of video of your offense and action, but what I have seen, it looks like action after action after action until the defense just gets fatigued and then you got to bask it. Yeah, Bob, we have a couple of things that we talk about with offense. Number one is spacing, you know, different spacing concepts. We have a lot of multiple actions in the action, right? But it's not as complex as you think as you watch the video, right? To me, the great offensive teams are very efficient. They know what they're doing. They're organized. They value possessions. They get to good shots. You know, that's been kind of our calling card. But what

53:14people don't understand is when you run bad offense, it affects your defense. So not only do you have to have a good offense to be good, you have to have a good defense. And you know, it's really the cohesion. And I was telling Terry, we're going to take a summer trip. We're going to go to the Bahamas. And so we're going to get 10 practices this summer. And I thought Terry asked a really interesting question, are you going to be able to get your whole system in the summer? Just about to be honest with you. So this will be a really important summer. You know, may will be about the organization of June. You always want to work kind of one month ahead. And we'll work on spacing, terminology, getting to understand each other, building that cohesion. And yeah, it'll be fun. I think you'll be really, really excited about the style. I thought Terry's interesting question was going to be, can I fit into one of the equipment bags? I think you should, you guys both should come. I agree. Brian, you're up next. Coach, I know we can't talk about who yet. Yep. But we know where the targets are. Yep.

54:18And I'm just curious, like we're seeing a whole lot of people leveling up, we'll say. Yeah. In basketball right now. Yeah. How do you how do you determine the the targets based on the competition they're playing and what they're doing? Like how do you? Yeah, I think you're going to see an influx of mid major guys making the jump. I think people are starting to understand and catching on that there's a lot of good levels of basketball, right? And our success over the years, we want guys that when they walk into fifth or third arena, they walk into our building. They think there's nothing better. And it's been my experience when you get guys to go up. Man, they really embrace it and they really love being part of it. They're also powerful guys, right? I mean, so I think there's many levels of college basketball. Every coach is going to work really, really hard on roster construction. But to me,

55:20the hidden gems, the hidden secrets are what type of person that guy is? What does he value? Great question was here. Like, you know, we have kind of things that we ask them, right? And then I think when you bring them on campus and you meet their parents, that kind of tells the tale. So don't get caught up in rankings. Don't get caught up in all the hoopla. This is like NBA free agency, right? Like let the process carry out. It's an exciting time. But to me, it's, you know, what happens in November and December and January, February and March, the bottom line is we are fighting. We have not been in the NCAA tournament in seven years, right? That has to change. That has to change next March because kids are well aware of that when you're going through the process. So what we're selling is, you know, come to university Cincinnati and we're going to change that narrative, right? We're going to get back in March madness. We're going to get there. Our fan base is crazy and they want to be a part of that, right? And then you got to sell your style

56:22of play. You got to sell what you've done recently. You got to sell the university. We got one of the best on campus arenas in the country, right? We've got an unbelievable campus, unbelievable city. This is a sports town. People love sports here. But yeah, I'd be lying to say we're not fighting that right now. You know, that's our biggest thing. We're constantly trying to address with players. Next question right over there. Yeah. Besides the Louisville game at Freedom Horror, are there any other non-conference games you could tell us about? Yeah, I mean, you know, obviously we've got Louisville Xavier Clemson. You know, we're going to go to a tournament down in Thanksgiving Thanksgiving day and the day after. We're going to be part of that and then Dayton, right? So we've got six games already, probably Monday. If the portal, we get everything we're supposed to be done this week. If not, that'll carry into next. But I would say within the next two weeks to three weeks, our schedule should be finalized. You know, we've got to establish a home

57:24court, you know, advantage, you know, just watching the tape. This fan base is the best in the country. And we really, really want to get this right over the next seven to 10 days, right? We got to concentrate on the roster. And then the next phase, the second most important part of college basketball, my opinion, is scheduling, right? So we have to be very strategic. You know, we last two seasons, we got at large, well, one season a year ago, we got in that large. Big part of that was scheduling. So we, we study it, we look at numbers, we're analytically driven. We kind of know what we're doing with the schedule. But at the end of the day, whoever you play, you got to win. So the recruiting is kind of at the forefront, scheduling will be soon. Karen. I talked to Dan a little earlier. The week you were hired, I'd like to know where 23 years of my life have gone. He was three at the time. I remember you sitting on the bench as a student manager. I remember the coach you played for, the coach, Mass and me, you know, because I grew up with

58:29the real big East grew up on a Q's basketball, growing up in Western New York, have a connection to Syracuse and stop. So and it's nice to root for you then against you because I've seen you coach at Youngstown State against NKU. I live in Northern Kentucky. Yeah, it's by supporting. For any of the houses over there, Karen, can you give me a house? I want to move out of that. Oh, there's 20 houses in Fort Mitchell. Home by a wife. Villa Hills. Yeah, because I live in that area. International kids can now make more money in the United States. And they're so skilled. You look at what Coach Underwood did at Illinois. They're just,

1:00:39they're everywhere, right? So yeah, I think we'll do high school. We'll do obviously the portal in international. Be a big part of it. Part of your recruiting process. Are you recruiting guys to RedShirt? Yes. Yes, that's, that's, yeah, absolutely, Terry. Yeah, that's another good one. I would like to RedShirt at least one possible too. So that, that is being talked about as kids are coming in. You know, kids are crazy to me if they don't. Why would you, why would you not want to get better? Why would you not want to develop and, you know, stay at one place? And yeah, I think we will have for sure at least one. Scotty, you'll also, you don't get yelled at because you're, you're the best player. You're the best player. You can take match. I was the most of the time in Cleveland State.
