The town's 151-year-old show added a new giant pumpkin category. 40 people planted seas to compete, but tough weather hit hard with summer frost, heat waves, high winds and low rain. Most pumpkins ended up under 150 kilograms this year, like Chris Cobier's 80 kilogram entry. Still, growers stay upbeat, sharing seeds and tips despite past hard breaks from rotting vines. The oversized veggies draw smiles from everyone, rolling into shows or even floated down the Tumat River. Local leaders say it builds community spirit and taps into a competitive drive. Tumat folks plan to keep trying every year, dreaming of funding a giant pumpkin landmark to welcome visitors.
