Tui Sued Over Cape Verde Holiday Illnesses

0:00On April 7th, over 1,700 folks have jumped into a massive lawsuit against travel giant Tweet after getting sick on holidays to Cape Verde. Lawyers from Irwin Mitchell are spearheading the personal injury claims with people reporting illnesses as recent as two weeks back. They link at least eight British deaths to these trips over recent years. Health officials in the UK issued warnings back in February about stomachbugs hitting travelers to the West African islands. Health show gastric infections like shagella, salmonella, ecoli, and cryptospiridium affecting everyone from six month old to adults. Since October of last year, agencies tracked over 150 cases tied to Cape Verde travel. Families are heartbroken, sharing stories of loved ones like 64-year-old Elena Walsh, who fell ill fast at a five-star resort last August, and passed away two days later in hospital. Other, Karen Pooley, died from sepsis after slipping while sick on her trip in October.

1:01Her daughter blames Tweet outright, saying no family should endure that pain. Lawyers have collected evidence of sketchy hotel conditions, like undercooked food and moldy rooms. Tweet is looking into it, but won't comment fully yet, waiting on an unpublished health report from Cape Verde. The resorts insist they meet top hygiene standards. This case could head to high court, with millions and damages on the line if talks fail. Travelers, think twice before booking safeties, no guarantee out there.
