It's March 25th. You're listening to Kansas News today, AI-powered local news. I'm Corey with the story. A driver died in a crash on Highway 71 in Kansas City after his pickup truck went airborne and flipped. It happened just before 11.45 a.m. on Friday, March 25th, 2026, near 85th Street, police found a beige Chevrolet Silverado heading north from Bannister Road. Researchers say the truck left the road for an unknown reason and hit the grassy median west of Rock Ridge, Corey. While trying to get back on track, it dropped down a concrete embankment between the lanes, launched into the air, smashed a guardrail, and rolled. Over. First responders arrived quickly, but pronounced the driver dead right there at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and details on the man's identity haven't been released yet. Road is still active as of Wednesday afternoon, with police looking into what caused the truck to veer off. This marks Kansas City's 18-fatal crash so far this year, a jump from just 12 at this point
last year. Road safety remains a big concern here, especially on busy stretches like Highway 71, as officials work to prevent more tragedies like this. 1.
