Trooper's Life Cut Short in Wrong-Way Crash

A North Carolina state trooper lost his life over the weekend in a tragic crash on the Durham Freeway. 30-year-old Stephen J. Perry was on duty on March 1st when a wrong-way driver slammed into his patrol car. The driver, 39-year-old Mel Shaw and Moore, also died in the collision. Highway Patrol officials suspect impairment played a role in the incident. They noted that Moore had three prior convictions for driving while impaired, based on court records. Friends, family, and former teammates are mourning Perry's death. North Carolina Central University, where he played college football, shared heartfelt condolences for the former offensive lineman and his loved ones. Perry led her for the team over three seasons from 2014 to 2017. He started every game in his senior year and went on to earn a criminal justice degree in 2018.
