Our popular but simple judgments about myth are kind of a smug, self-securing firewall to the apparent ignorance and backwardness of ancient people. We protect our intellectual security against such ancient ignorance by believing nothing when it comes to myth. Could this firewall to the ignorance of our ancestors be an unintended barrier to the pursuit of knowledge or even truth?
