Tom Daley Fights to Save Scotland's Diving Pool

The Citadel Leisure Center and Air faces shutdown at the end of April due to budget cuts by South Airshire Council. Club members would then need a round trip of 180 miles to the nearest alternative in Edinburgh. Daly, who retired last year after five Olympic games, calls the move heartbreaking. He points out that diving is a small sport with growing interest and losing facilities like this hurts its development across Scotland. Without local pools, he says, young talent often goes undiscovered. Daly's own career started at a small pool in Plymouth, which he credits for his path to becoming Britain's most decorated diver with three bronze, metals, one silver, and one gold. He notes these spots build skills beyond diving, like discipline and teamwork, and feed into bigger centers and places like Edinburgh and Aberdeen. The council says the tough call comes from financial and operational strains, but will free up space for 700 more, learn to swim spots.

Daly hopes for a rethink, especially with fresh talent emerging in Scotland and his own plans to train there during local filming, now off the table.
