“To Whom Will You Compare Me?”

Welcome and thank you for joining us for tonight's our daily bread evening meditation.

It's a joy and privilege to rest in God's word with you this evening. Take a deep breath in

and out as you settle down for a quiet time of marvelling God's awesome love and faithfulness.

As we begin this reflective time, make sure you're comfortable. Breathe slowly and deeply.

Lay back into your bed or chair. Let the weight and tension ease out of your body as you fully

release each muscle. What distractions are vying for your attention just now?

Try to put them aside during this time. You can always get them out again later.

Let's commit this evening's meditation and our hearts to our Father in Prayer.

Only God, creator of all things, what a privilege it is to be your child. It is such a comfort to have

the God of the universe on my side. I come now to spend a few moments in your presence.

Please open the eyes of my heart to see your eternal truth tonight.

Exodus, chapter 8 verses 1 to 7 says,

then the Lord said to Moses, go to Pharaoh and say to him,

this is what the Lord says, let my people go so that they may worship me.

If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country.

The Nile will team with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your

bed into the house of your officials and on your people and into the ovens and kneading drops.

The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.

Then the Lord said to Moses, tell Aaron, stretch out your hand with your staff over the

streams and canals and ponds and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt and the frogs came up and covered the land.

But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts.

They also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

Frogs, like most things, they are fine in moderation. But the number of frogs in

tonight's reading, this is not fine. There are frogs on the roads, frogs covering the garden,

frogs in the house, in the kitchen, the sitting room, on the table and even on your bed,

covering everything in slimy frog goo. Squished frogs rotting and

deal feet and froggy smelling a growing, increasing the oppressive.

What a strange act of God.

Pharaoh's pagan magicians keen to show their own miraculous power, create more frogs.

It's a pretty clever trick, but surely, if they had genuine God-like power,

they would put an end to the froggy nightmare. Not add to it, but they didn't have God's creative

power. They only had tricks, clever tricks, but not much use.

If you find yourself feeling spiritual forces of people, remember that the

enemy's power is so limited, God is the creator. He is the ultimate power.

How good to have the awesome power of God on our side.

As we turn to prayer, consciously relax every part of your body, starting at your feet and working

your way up. Roll back your shoulders.

Flex your fingers and toes.

As the prophet Isaiah reminds us in Isaiah chapter 40, verses 25 to 26, no one compares to our God,

to whom will you compare me, or who is my equal, saves the holy one?

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens, who created all of these.

He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls them forth each of them by name,

because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

Let's breathe deeply with long, slow exhales, or just listen if that's more comfortable.

Breathe in and out and in and out.

And in and out.

Let's pray.

Father, I admit that I so often seek you in the hard times and neglect you when things settle down.

I am missing out on so many blessings.

Help me to seek you with all of my heart, simply for the joy of knowing you.

Thank you so much, Heavenly Father, that you have all power over every evil demonic force in the universe.

Thank you that in Jesus I do not need to fear any evil.

May I never forget your suffering authority in times of fear and dismay.

What a joy to know the God of heaven is on my side.

Please bring total peace to my heart tonight, Lord, as I rest in the knowledge of your authority

over heaven and earth.

The Psalmist says in Psalm 27 verses 4 to 5,

Think I ask from the Lord this only do I seek that I made well in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

To gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling.

He will hide me in the shelter of His sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

Let's close with a final prayer.

Heavenly Father, I am thankful for a frog-free bed.

I thank you for the freedoms and blessings I enjoy and I pray for your grace to endure the

difficulties and challenges I face. Please grant me your rest tonight.

I am so blessed to know you are always here with me.
