5:08We hear him over on 55 KRC on Saturdays and Sundays. And of course, you can hear him on nearly 300 stations coast to coast. He's a national guy. He's not just some local guy talking about Gary Sullivan. Nice to have you in the studio today. How about that, man? I am a local guy. You are local guy. Although, you know, hey, look, when the rest of us were freezing to death, you were hanging out down in Florida. Yeah, it was. Yeah, you were good for you. It's very nice. Look, tan and fit and rested in the whole deal. I'm working on it. I know you are. We're always working on it. That's the house. I hear you. Well, we're going to get to that now here in a minute because I went through a little bit of this the other day. And I'm about to embark on a little bit more of it the other day. And we're talking about window and or door and or porch screens. Uh-huh. Okay. So what they do and this was our porch screen. We don't have it, you know, as a year round glass and clothes, it's just the screens. Right.

6:08And so on the nice munch sit out there. He'd dinner out there. A lot of my wife and I are when the kids are over, what have you? But because we're next to a gravel driveway that goes to the back of our property, all that dirt. Right. Okay. Now the screens. So my wife and I were debating it the other day. How would you go about really being able to clean those? Because if you get the power washer out, which I had out, right? Okay. I'm going to busy week when you get that thing out there and you put it on the lowest setting because you don't want to blast through the screens, right? But are you really getting it clean when you're doing that? To a degree. But if you've done it where you're doing a wand, you're, you're, you're, you can never really tell where the dirt is. Yeah. I mean. And then when it dries, you see the streaks, right? So you can do it that way, you know, the old hose, a little scrub brush of water, that's a lot of work. But I mean, that'll get them clean. The other way is the wet and forget product called window and glass cleaner and screen cleaner window and window glass and screen cleaner.

7:11I got it right now. All right. It's a hose and an attachment that you just spray it on and literally it will clean the screen. No kiddo rinsing clean. I should have figured it was a pretty good job. It really does. They just brought it to market about two years ago. So that's my new favorite. But I used to always use because I'm lazy, I didn't want to get the scrub brush out. The pressure washer was my go to and then I'd always get to see the streaks over there because the sun was set right now on court. We got a porch too. Let's see a streaks there. No, I can't see any streaks. That's the answer time. It's like there's no, I mean, maybe you do. I'm not sure. And now it's pollen. A lot of pollen. Well, no kidding. No kidding. Now, does that add, I mean, since you bring it up, does that add another literally and figuratively a layer on screen, windows, porches, what have you? I just started noticing it. We cleaned our screens about two weeks ago and I just started noticing pollen on them like in the last day or so. Right.

8:11We got a big pine tree right next to it. Yeah, I guess it depends on the type of tree you have around and you know, the winds and all that. But yeah, I'm starting to notice it. We'll probably have to clean it again, for sure. Okay. The worst part is when they wear out though. Yeah, what do you do? I love that. Well, you take the frame to the hardware store, some people say, I can replace that screen. Okay. All right. Which you can. So it's really not that difficult of a process. First thing I just said, what kind of screen do you want? You probably got a screen that yours, it's almost like a fabric. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I guess. Yeah. So they used to, and they still do. They have aluminum, which is kind of rigid, a little more difficult to replace. And it's aluminum color, that creates a big glare, there's a black, which eliminates the glare. So you got to pick up what kind of screen you want. The fiberglass screens, and that's the one I'm talking about a cloth, it comes in a black and a gray to act like the aluminum. So same type, depending on the look you want. It is easily replaced, but it also wears out, after about 15 years, without any issues

9:19besides rain and sun, it'll wear out. It'll start getting threadbare, or if you got grandkids or kids, and they're pushing on the screen, you'll say. So what you do is you can take the frame out, whether it's inside of the house, the outside of the house, along the window, you get a good workbench, or a slash ping pong table. Sure. A couple of clamps, get that nice and rigid to the table. And there's a little spleen, a little rubber insert that goes all the way around. That's what holds the screen in the frame. All right. You can get a little scratch all your screwdriver and pick that out and pull that all out. There's about eight different sizes. So you've got to bring that to the hardware store to make sure you get the right size screen. Don't use the old stuff. It's very non-flexible. It's almost as hard as a rock at this point. Then you buy the screen, and you lay the screen over the frame, and then you just push that new spleen, right down and spline, I'm sorry, spline the splines inside. Push that in the corner, and it looks like a doll pizza cutter, and you just roll that

10:24spline into the frame, and it holds the screen. Right. Really? That's it. Because Chuck was talking about doing this. He did it. I think it was. I know it was because I've only been on the show a year. He did it roughly about this time last year, and he told me it really isn't that hard to do. It's really nice. And you get a lot of points. You get a lot of points. I don't know about that. You get some points. I don't know about that. You get some points. I don't have enough in this game. Okay. When you're getting ready now for the spring and summer, what type of things need lubrication in the house? I'll tell you. Here's a funny story. You're just talking. That's your wife. Yeah. Gary. What's wrong with this desk drawer? Come on. Give me a break. It's a desk drawer. Well, first of all, it's off the track. Right. Get it on the track. Yeah. Get it on the track. I know. I'm using this office for 24 hours. I mean, yeah. It's put off the track. Yeah, that's right. 18 years.

11:24And anyway, I have to admit this. I have to admit this. It hurts, but I have to admit this. I got it on the track. She came in. She checked my desk. She checked my work time. Of course. And she said, I think it's still kind of a little tough to pull out. And I'm like, well, what do you want? Do you want this thing like on a highway? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So I went out and I got some Teflon spray. Did all the dust drawers I went? My God. Those things really worked. Of course. Of course. Hey, there's nothing wrong with giving it up to her for that. So I was thinking the day I said, you know what? What are how many other people's desk drawers? Bureau doors? Yeah. So I'm getting all these guys in trouble now. Or the windows, if you have replacement windows. Yeah. No doubt. Yeah. Yeah. Clean that up and just don't use like a WD40 or a real refined oil. That kind of a tracks dirt and it gets kind of gummy and then you can actually wear out

12:25those nylon rollers. So you want to use silicone or Teflon and basically what I used, I used a blaster's garage door lubricant, which is a combination of silicone and Teflon. I did a great job and I was wrong again. You know what though? I mean, to take a step further. I mean, you're talking about the drawers and the desk, but I mean, it is nice once on windows. Oh, yeah. You feel like you have a hernia for God's sake, right? Yeah. Open it some of them. You know, after a long winter, whatever it is, it's nice to get them where it's just a little lift and man. There you go. It was really nice. So I want to miss you now, man. I mean, another place to do it. The patio door. It has a little locking mechanism in there. Yeah. I had noticed. Didn't do anything about it, right? She had noticed it yet. So we hadn't done anything about it. And I thought, you know what? Well, I got this can. I think I'll just hit the deadbolt and the score, score, score. Didn't need a claim to squirt. Oh, my God. The doors are good. This is a bingo. Nice. So yeah. I'll be that guy. Okay. What else? A door? A window. Well, a desk drawer.

13:25But I mean, anything else come to mind? The guy might want to say, hey, you know, I'm banging all this out this weekend. Going in. No, I think anything that moves in and out or closes. Okay. You could do hinges if it was, you know, sticky a lot of times with hinges in a door. The door just closes by itself or it won't close at all. And really, that's not really a lubrication issue. That's more of a check the hinges. A lot of times the screws get loose. Sometimes you can pull one of those pins out that go in between the two of those pins. Yeah. And that's if it always stays open. Or is there anyone that always closes? You just put a little bend in it and then drive that back in there. It's perfect. It just adds friction. So. But, you know, anything that moves, I guess. I mean, I was thinking about a closet drawer, you know, for example, you know, I mean, something like that. I think after a while. Yeah. I have to admit, and I said they were not difficult to close. But man, they're awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They really are. I passed the test. All right. Last thing I want to ask you here is about water around wood trim.

14:28Say to the entry door example. Okay. And I notice it starts to peel and all that kind of thing. So why they are more than anywhere else? People coming in and out and bringing in the moisture? Well, it's interesting because it's on the outside of the door. And it's the trim molding goes in the hides where the door fits in the wall. Yeah. But it's, um, a lot of people think it's all water that lines up against the bottom of that trim. And that's not the case. Okay. So what they do, if you look at that trim milling, when you go home, take a look at, it's about this high off the concrete. Yeah. And so everybody says, oh, well, there it is. There's this gap and water is going in there and the wood sucking it up. Yeah. It could be. I get that cocking and put the cocking in there, done. Then the peeling paint keeps going up. It's like, well, where's the water coming from? From the top of the molding. Yeah. The top of the molding. So the folks that, you know, when there's paint peeling, there's a problem. And 90% of it's caused by water. Sure. Okay. So you've been doing the bottom, you've basically made a bathtub because the opening is,

15:32if you had a brick house or a siding house, the water is flushing down the front of the house. The molding is about, hmm, quarter inch off the brick or whatever. Water is going down in there. And you're talking the bottom of it now. I can't get out. I know where to go. Yeah. That space that the bottom is designed to allow the water out. Hmm. Not bring the water. Yeah. Why do you think it's a great way of looking at it? Yeah. And the brick house, every six spaces on a vertical mortar joint, there's a little screen. And that screen is because the brick is not right on the house. It's about half inch off the house. In case water ever got behind that brick like missing mortar and then that water washes down, that screen is an outlet port for the water that's between the brick and the house. Okay. So yeah, you don't want to trap water there ever. Okay. I'll tell you, um, over the last 15 minutes, you have created a borderline nightmare for a lot of the men out there.

16:32And I mean, you have given, and our female audience in this eight o'clock hour over the last year has multiplied by seven and now the headaches are multiplied by double that for their husbands after hearing this today. I agree because I get that feedback on a pretty relative regular basis of church the other day. The guy says to me, Oh, it's you. It's like, Oh, I love your tips. I make it. And I'm going like, that's why I have very few friends. That's right. That's right. Hey, uh, good luck at your meeting today. And a great scene. You're always so glad you made it in.
