Hello and welcome to the reaction as Celtic picked up points and perth. Running out one now, victors against Johnston, in what was maybe an uneven game we can certainly get into it. I'm your host Chris Gallowayr delighted to see I've got the one the only Chris Romani with me. Hello Chris for how are you sir? Terrific Chris, delighted to be here, delighted to have got the three points, game of two halves but even then they maybe weren't as different as you'd like to be but let's get on about it. I'm just going to open with I just get an email from
Kyle Moore and Colorado, Kyle and Colorado and Kyle says the bad and Trump look like Linesman calling off a good goal for us. It wasn't even close, unreal. I did call on bad and Trump when I saw him as well and clear laughed. So good stuff. I didn't register well, it looked like to be honest but I'm going way, Kyle and Colorado and Gale and Canvas line that you're spot on. That decision was, I'm going to be nice, inconclusive Christopher. That has been very nice man. Yeah, I mean like that, they kind of sums up the whole VAR thing in Scotland. It's just a lack of equipment. I mean it's literally just a lack of cameras and a lack of foresight and a lack of investment. It's getting worse and worse on a weekly basis it feels as well with some of the decisions. But even there, they could have still showed something and then
said, oh that looks, but they just went, no, no, that's a bike. Then Sky have got the picture. The only possible thing that you could then suggest was that it swung out and swung back in. It's all very, your man McBride, offside and George Cadet, but I broke. Did. So let's go right on to the SFA and Monday. We'll take you to this, I've been in the morning. Okay, cool. I just wanted to get that out of the way with Kyle. Thanks for getting involved. One now, lots to pick over, including the line-up, which I think was fairly interesting. I'll give you my thoughts just before we bring you in. I'm a little bit concerned that we went from being quite clinical at the start of the season to being less clinical. It's kind of creeped in the last two games where we've had opportunities and we've not taken them. We won one day, and I think we deserved a victory. I think we deserved the three
points. But it was, as I've been saying for a while, the games are still live right up until the last kick, and that's a worry for me. What's your thoughts? Yeah, it's a bit more than that for me because the tale of quite some time has been, has been wasteful with chances, maybe not burying games. Much as we thought that the Celtic board might have changed their tact three, or transverse to a two-hice for a brief period, I think some of the early season performances we were thinking, right, we've changed that way. I mean, I still think this is the case. We've recruited well up front, Jaran, and who, even though you've maybe not scoring, and I don't think we're set up right for them, I still think that those were two statements, evenings, and we've improved there. And it did look as if some of those chances would be buried quick and then the games would be over. That's started to change, as you say, for the last two games. But particularly in
the first half tonight, we weren't creating anything. We've got, we had the front three, you'd ruin the middle, and again, not to absolve him of any blame, but I think we kind of knew that you had creativity in the wings to bring him into play, you know, these movements in places like that, that wasn't there. But you'd, to Nicky, and I'm sure we'll talk a bit more about him, and how ineffective he was. I said no in that first half, and I well granted he should have it a goal, and he looked brighter. He was like a carbon copy in the right hand side. In the RKV acts when it comes to that, because he's only been here for a while, and you know, people were saying that he was unfit. But that lack of creativity on both sides of the park was really, really kind of apparent in that first half. I kind of felt like in the first half specifically, the, would you have an instruction seem to be get the ball out wide and let the winger take on the full back and get the ball in.
And the amount of times that just give him a little bit more leeway maybe, because I mean, he was beating people, he was beating people, he was getting to the byline, his delivery was poor. I'm fine with his hand, because I think there's levels to go up. I find him quite exciting. I'm saying this now. I'm saying it now. The stats and all that, you know, all that power for Tenecky was that he could beat a man, but he had no finished product. This stats for his hand says much the same Christopher. So, listen, he's not long here, he's not long in the door, he was unfit, you know, that that always surprised me, given he played at the World Cup. I know he missed the group stage, he's not a chameleon being hard on him. I'm just saying it. I'm just saying it. Look, we'll put it this way. See his hand, he's played what five games. So we'll see where he's
going to be. How's it? I don't know. I'll tell you. But Tenecky has there's way more evidence to suggest. I described it as being this is absolutely the wrong environment for him. Yeah. It looked like, and as you see, I think the tactics or the way they were calling it was to get the ball out wide and then try to get balls into the box. But so much of it was going down the left hand side, that's not helped when you've got Liam skills playing behind them as well. And we just looked so, you know, plotting on that side of the park, but it almost seemed, you got the feeling, you know, midway during the first half that they were saying, get a ball, Tenecky, get his confidence up. I know it's like the more he gets on the ball and the more it will start to happen. And to be fair to him, I don't know why I'm being fair, but I did think he looked a bit more lively and a wee bit more confident at the start of the second half. But to have so much to the ball, so many times
in that first half and to produce what he did, it just reinforced a lot of his thought. We're in real danger on the left hand side in particular with Yang away today as in games and Jota's estimated return being whenever or never, you know, if we're speaking through fears out loud, you know. Yeah, I think that see if anyone else had as much space and time as Teneck did it in that first half, the output in terms of opportunities created I think would have been higher. I don't think like, he's not, he's not, he's not as bad, I don't think, as he looks, I just think that I don't think he's good enough to play under this pressure, this crushing pressure. I don't think this environment's good for him and I just don't think he's going to improve. And sometimes you can see it in a guy where you're just like, I may, I just don't think you've got the mentality to play it Celtic because I do think he does have attributes, right? But if you look at that first half where
he had the beating of the, the fullback. And a lot of the time we would cut back or he'd cut inside, it's just like just to have her a ball and even, but I suppose even when he did, it's and again, I'm not trying to drag his hand into this too, but it is one of the first things you've noticed and both of them can be a man, you know, I think his hand makes that part of the game look so effortless, it's on you, when I always remember in the early stages of Yang's career, he's actually more reserved now, but his feet were really really quick, you know, he could stand, you know, a man up and beaten, but then it was well, what happened next? What came from there? Now Yang's completely and early changed his game, he's worked right, it's incredible. Again, I think we would want to see him do it for a longer period of time, but he's been steadily improving from last season up until now where for the last couple of games, this impending departure,
you know, in terms of going to the Asian games has now become a big thing. When if he said six months ago, Yang was going to go away for however long as you believe that, I really don't worry about it, but with regards to, um, to Rectay, it's just that part of it beating a man, I don't think he's his natural Italian, that it is, at it is his hand is, but when he does it, he just, again, he makes a wrong decision, it's either cutting back for no reason, it's almost that way where in the primary school, you know, you would have somebody who was really good at beating up learning, they would just do it for fun and he would go back even though it was unnecessary, but it's just even when he cuts it back nine times out of ten, it goes between either somebody running late in the box, or they're, you know, who the attacker who's in the box, I've seen a bit of that from, that from Hassan with some of his delivery, but Tineck, he's made a career of it, and you, you will get moments, he scores some great goals, I remember scored one at rugby park last season, it was a curler from, you know, the, the, the edge, and it was, it was a great goal. So there've been moments,
and there's been instances over his career where you're thinking, you can make a difference, but there's so few and far between that, um, you really need to renjudge him on what he does consistently, what he does consistently is deliver the ball extremely poorly into the box and frustrate a life out of us. It's almost like even if he does beat the man, it doesn't really matter. Hi, Chris, I think, I think I said in one of the, the, the, the, what, so upset I was in, it was the amazing way, the referee might as well just signal for a goal kick when he gets the ball in and around the edge of the box because it's going to be an ineffective crosser ball that goes in. It's, it was just habitually bad each time. And the thing that the problem for Tineke, as you say, there's enough evidence to suggest that he's not going to get any better. So he just frustrates a life out of the support, and I think you're right as well. There's a, a character that goes with playing for Celtic and in situations like that, being able to dig yourself out of
a hole. I just don't think he's going to do it in this probably won't, but at the last time, you have this sort of conversation on one of these podcasts. The Reggie Blinker, Blinker vacation of Tineke day is in full flow. Mind we, we didn't sell the cannibal, we traded them. And it was for Reggie Blinker. I remember that joke, joke, brown, classic, yeah, big, big, dark brown. Let's look at the lineup. So there was five changes. So Johnson started, I had to send a salo. Let's just start with that one. I get the uncle and I get the feeling that he's going to be the number one one now. Martin Neal loves English football. He's very much an anglophile. Obviously his whole career was played down there. I think he sees English football as the sort of the peak, right? And he has mentioned at least four or five times over the last couple of weeks about how Johnson was in England squad. And we've heard reports that basically he almost
not Han picked Johnson, but he was his guy. So I take it as red that now, Johnson's the number one with a, a salo chasing him. How do you read it? I get that feeling too. I had an uncle of that when he signed, I mean, what's his profile? It's a profile that the club have went to a few times recently. Yeah. I mean, you could, you obviously did it with Michael before that. We did it with Joe Hart before that even going back a little bit further. Remember what forced her back in and loan and then tried to do it again. It's slightly different, but it's, it's that sort of keeper who's best days are past them, but they've still got a bit of football. They're a safe pair of hands. The autumn of get flaws, you know, the modern game you want them to play football. None of those goalkeepers could play football to any great extent. We used to kid ourselves on heart. He's better than God in it doing that. Not really an inch Michael. I think there was a
period at the start of his first season, we were saying, oh, what an upgrade, what an upgrade. When it comes to playing football, but I don't think that was the case. But because of the way goalkeepers age and, you know, the, the, the fact that they're not, you know, covered anywhere near as much. Yeah, they just outfield players. They do have a greater longevity. So I've got a bass and pithy for that position at times. In regards to this, I do think that when Brown came in, that profile just smacked to me of something the club have done. And I did get that feeling a wee bit that this might be what I knew was picked out because I haven't played, I need four caps or something like that for England. Some were right. Yeah. Not a lot. To be honest, I wouldn't, I couldn't have told you that that was the case before. It came up in the, in the media. The fact that he's picked some day of that profile and that you mentioned them suggests to me that a new just doesn't fancy, Sinisalo. I think it's a little bit harsh, but I'll also be honest and think as much as you couldn't point to Sinisalo and say he's done anything really particularly
wrong. There's always been an uncle in a feeling and maybe he doesn't do anything particularly. Well, well, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's a pair of safeish hands, but having him as your first, he's not the sort of keeper that will make an incredible world class save like some of those get keepers we've then talked about, but then again, he might not make some of the clangers that some of those keepers have made over the years as well. He just did a feeling about him that he was just a bit bland. So, a bit even Stephen. I just, I even, you know, the what he's even handling is sometimes okay. He's footwork isn't terrible, but it's not great. It's just, you know, he's better than Ross doing. What, what, what'd you make it, Johnson? I mean, there's not a lot today to pick over. I wasn't, yeah, I don't think there's a lot to pick over. Would you make anything stand out? You see that he's, that was a good save. Sometimes I think though when you get shots
like that in the right at you and they're just above you, any keeper worth his soul, this sounds like I'm being dismissing the save completely, but I'm not. But I always remember McGregor for Rangers that they'd meet there or the commentators, well, they're almost incredible save, I wasn't. Essentially it was right at him. Yeah. It wasn't quite that simple, but when it comes at you, you know, you'll see a lot of keepers make that reaction save, but it was good because it was not worthy and how fast that happened and all that, but there really wasn't much else to kind of speak of any note in regards to it because as much as we were wasteful, we didn't really do too much certainly in the first half attacking wise. It's a Johnson, we weren't really after it. You were just always wary of that potential stinging the tail because we'd been wasteful. I think that's exactly it. And I think, yeah, I think he's done the number one now, so we'll just have to wait and see what was your thoughts on Sinacella? Do you think it's harsh or are you just never convinced by him as well? The more I see Sinacella, the less convinced I am.
And I think that it's kind of, I think he's just a very, he's very average at everything he does. He doesn't stand out in any way. Kate Gordon used to make some incredible saves that would be like nine at a 10, 10 at a 10 and then he'd absolutely make an ask of it and you'd concede a goal. And it's almost like that goal that we scored that we did you save that shot that you saved and the fact that you have let one in kind of just even evens it out sort of thing. Sinacella and I'm never being convinced by him and I just think that he was different from Schmickolassies. And I think we should get an upgrade. I think we should have went out and got an actual number one because I don't think Sam Johnson is well, he will be now, but I'd like his to see, but bring a profile. I'd like this to spend some money. I think they're still scarred by young fucking man, I'm not going to mention that they've any money over a million seems to terrify them.
So yeah, yes, that's a kind of how I'm don't even was it right back money? Was brought in with trusty. We've been told Martin A.L. said that CCV felt a little bit of pain, a bit a little bit of discomfort, but it's not an injury. I think it's just maybe he's played so many games in such a small period of time compared to obviously his time out. So money was in gold, money was in center half with trusty scales left back, which I just think is wild. Yes, just think it's insane. McGregor bow our sorenson, so a new midfield kind of makeup and then up front we had Casper Hoo, Tuneck Day and Hassan. On the bench, we had Sinisalo, we had Latumba, never going to play. We had Negren, we had Juran, we had Oxley Chamberlain, we had Mayuka, Vandenberg, probably not going to play. Wait, Forest, wait, Tn. What did you make of that midfield? McGregor bow and sorenson. Sorenson,
I think he was quite ineffective, but I'm not sure they know what his best position is yet. Martin who kind of alluded to that and the pre-match sort of comments, so it might take time to figure out the best way to utilise him. What did you make his game? He was fairly anonymous, to be perfectly honest. I understand, so I've obviously, excuse me, I listened to a couple of the podcasts, they're a gen then, they're a review of the transfer window, the transfer committee, and you've asked the question, would you think of the transfer window? I'll not repeat that. There's plenty of content out there for listeners, this is about the south-take aim, but the point is with Sorenson, he's this profile of a sort of profile that I can understand the club going for. What, in terms of what we were looking at, there was a guy who had real success at Michelin,
got a move to, well, Parma, I mean, they're not the club that they were, but they paid a fair whack for them. So they obviously seen something, and he wouldn't be the first player that's went to another country, and it's not worked out. So even from that very basic analysis, I thought, okay, this might be the sort of environment where a player could thrive. But then when I heard the description of what he's gamers and what they see as he strengths, and it seemed as if it was a large part of his game was making laterons into the box to score, I started to think, is that what we're looking for, and is that what we need in this midfield? Now, I'm not alone, you know, and thinking we need somebody in there who's going to, one, you know, probably add more solidity to that midfield, be that by protecting, that likes a McGregor at the bar, who are going to, you know, move forward and run forward. But also the backline because we've been a bit of a seven even domestically from there, and you could even see that today, the space between the midfielders and then the gaps that were sitting from the midfield to the defence was still apparent, and it's
exploitable. So I was absolutely perplexed that that's the type of midfielder that we went for. Now, putting aside these quality in what we've got, if you're then starting from the point, these then competing with guys that we've already got there maybe because if you're thinking he's going to play in that position, is he going to occupy where the eagerness might play? I don't know, it just, that seems an even more strange sign than let's say, for instance, it was more defensively minded than he was going to compliment some of the other players that we've got. But on the evidence of tonight, it's really hard to judge the guy, it wouldn't be fair to make your mind up on it or not, the man the past, you know. But nothing about really impressed me tonight, I didn't see anything that I thought maybe he can develop, maybe, you know, the strong aspects of the game that he has been making his later runs. There was a couple of times when he did it, but that was probably the only times I really noticed the guy particularly in the first half,
who was much the same and it was almost like how you'd been in the first half of the tour, because I think it got to about 25 minutes and I said to my boys, he says, he touched the ball, yeah, it's Ornson, because it kind of just bypassed him. So early days and all that, but I'm not, I'm not punching the air. But it was the bad thing, but does it van der Berg? Yeah, he's 19. I really hope he's good Chris. I know, I know, I know, I know, placing my hopes in a Dutch teenager isn't good, but I really hope he's good. That's all I'll say. Can I say something? I hope I really hope he's good Chris. Let's hope and pray together Chris, we'll just sit hands and pray. So I think you said something fairly interesting there, right? Because I think maybe they've looked at them and they've thought, this guy's a good profile and this guy's a good pick up. And that's as far as they've got, as opposed to what do we need? Do we need that type of player? Yeah. Sometimes I think the club
look at something and they go, that's a good, but that's a bargain. You know, when you're in a supermarket and you see something and it's a bargain and you don't need it or you're online and you see something and it's a bargain and you don't need it. But you think to yourself, that's 70% off. And that, that is a magnetic charger. I could put my phone on that. That's usually 50 pounds and I can get it for whatever. I don't need it. But that's a bargain. One time I bought, when it was in the middle I love little, when I'll do it. I can't remember. It was a wine aerator. Right. Now the wine aerator was down from 1290 something like 399. Oh, that's nice. I would, I would, what do I do? I'll make sure it wine tastes magic. It's the one, didn't make a difference. It's in the cupboard. That is the sorrows and purchase of the middle. What was the price actually? It was the 399. It said loan and I just added that just, I just will allow. Your bank balance isn't
the changing. Give me a wheel on that. So I'll do me. But on a serious note, Chris, your point about profile. Yes. And I do think that and I think we are a club who can provide a platform. We're a team that's always attacking. We've got the best players in Scotland. So certain players can thrive on that sort of platform to rehabilitate themselves. We've done that historically. Yeah. You know, guys, guys that have had a bad, a bit complicit, even go back to Chris, certain that Chelsea came up here. It was an ideal environment for them. You know, there'll be others. I kind of really think of them to do it off the mind just now. But again, you've got that Scandinavian market where you're thinking, Michel And they've been a really solid Euro-pilogue team. Similarly, Bodo, you know, in a different way. And you could see why you're thinking, right, what are these guys attributes? Where can he play? How can he fix any homes in the squad or even your own augment? It just seems as low as if they were like that. Then he worked out for them. But
let's get that boy right in. I think that's probably a good show. But I think over the course of the next few weeks and months, we'll see if the guys are going to contribute or even play. Because some of these guys, you're going to have a chance, but the evils has got your back in your mind, the back of your mind that they're going to then just fall back on some of the guys that were already go there. So yeah, I think, you know, in that regard, I'm not saying like see picking up someone who's available in a short space of time that you maybe don't need just now. But you could maybe, if you're going to sell one of your midfielders in January. So between now and January, you give them 15 games, give them the last 10 minutes. You utilize them as well as you can for those six months. And then after the six months, you say, okay, X players left, you're going to fill that void now. You're going to play every week. That's a good way of doing it, I think. I don't think that's what this is. I think this is a case of, we've been offered to him or we've scouted him and he's like, this guy, he's got a little bit of everything. He's got a
little bit of everything. Is he a six? Well, not really. Is he any? Well, not really. Can you play in the 10? Not really, but what he can do is he can compliment players that he plays around. And maybe that's what he will do. But today, I barely, barely noticed them. I don't think he, he wasn't particularly great creatively. He wasn't particularly great defensively, great celebration for the goal. Let me ask you this. Is there a concern that we're tinkering too much with that midfield? And that you overshow your hand a little bit. Obviously, you've got mekebauer, you've got Kalim and Gregor, you've got Broughton, Van Den Berg, you've got Negrin, you've got Sorancin, Is there a worry? And I concern that you're just putting, not you don't quite know what you've got enough that you're just trying to figure out. And with the two Rangers games on, on right on the edge, you know, Sunday and then a week, a week later, two Rangers games in a week is what I could show this out. Is there a concern there?
Yeah, it's not only around the tinkering that's around the balance. Yeah, it really is worrying me and the balance in the midfield. I like what I've seen of, but that he's not, he's not going to be the guy that sits and drops deep and breaks player or put anything like that. He's going to switch up, going forward with McGregor. And then when you're looking at, I suppose it, as it stands right now, our first choice midfield would be, bar McGregor and Negrin. Yeah, there's gongs there, there's creativity there. There is also the ability to get tund over there. And as I've seen, very, very quickly and the exposure of the back four is a real concern in relation to that. Now, we're always going to judge part of our season on the games against them. In biol accounts tonight, the school in the last minute and there was the first shot in the second half. So we're not sitting quaking in our boots at them, making a charger, anything like
that are kind of developing a title challenge. They look as if they're a pretty poor outfit who, you know, it best are going to start churning out results against lower league teams. In one off games, cliches and all that sort of stuff, it's a different KELA fish, it's a different story. And then in particular, you're starting to think about the midfield battle. I mean, a guy like Raskin and you know, and some of the other players they've got, I'm not a big fan of them, I don't think they're particularly great. I think Man for Man Talent wise, you're midfielder, you would say, I've got more talent, but that lack of balance. In that, probably difference in physicality as well, what we're talking about, that's the sort of thing that can grind the team down and can kind of flip them over pretty quickly. I mean, an example of that last season was Oxlade Chamberlain now. In the last few games, he's come on and you've seen 50, 60 minutes or whatever from him and he's looked a wee bit like the Oxlade Chamberlain a 10 years ago. And that's good to see and you can understand,
he might play a bit more of a role in these games. That game at Ibrook's the one that gets just totally bypassed and pace wise. Yeah. And in some of these situations where you've maybe not got it right, you've maybe not got in there. It's not really about football and ability and our tactics necessarily. Sometimes it can quite simply be being overpubbled and being can be pushed out. That is one of my biggest worries. And obviously it's notwithstanding the defensive situation that we've got that we're just far too open. And then when you've got skills that fill back as well, I mean, for the first three or four minutes of the game, you've seen Trusty and Dan Murray passing the ball back and forward between each other and you just flashbacks to start a last season. When other passons that said that Trusty and Scales had the most touches on the ball because that's all they were doing going forward, couldn't break lines, couldn't do anything like that. You felt a wee better that tonight as well. Yeah. I think in terms of, you know, our midfield going forward, I love Bauer. I think he's great.
Make a Bauer power forever, forever. I think McGregor is playing well. There if you've got Niggor in there or whoever. It's just that physicality. I'm not dinosaur. I want, I'm not saying you have to be fucking, do you know what I mean, squat brown or whatever. But we have such a lack of it. I thought make a burrow was physically dominated a couple of times tonight. Just not being able to, you know, bouncing off of office man. And I'm not saying that's the type of game we should, we should be playing. But what I am seeing is when you've got guys like absolute fucking knuckle draggers like Kamie Devlin aggressively getting at them, we are just going to have to play twice as good as we use twice as well as we played today as an example, because they're going to be at you. And I'm not again, I think, I think, I think Kamie Devlin's an awful, awful footballer. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But this fixture, this Derby is not about who's the best footballers and it never has been. It's about who can deal with the pressure. And it's usually always
us, but there's just a concern that I have that we are so open and that we're not being as tinkering with them. It feels it feels like someone's going to be in or out. We don't know who. Do you think so many changes? We want that we've got the points. So that's the main thing. But do you think so many changes tonight were, do you think it'd be an official like Murray, I had a CCV? Okay, give CCV in it. I can understand that one. But I personally don't know why you just wouldn't play Jran, like play your hot hand. I would have played him. And if you are going to try Jran on the left, which it feels like they're not going to do that. But if you are going to do that, it feels like it felt like tonight was the night to try that before we go to Ibrook's. What's your talk on the, what's your thoughts on the changes? It never really works out well. I remember we've done it under Rodgers and you would see the team line up and then it would say except take make four changes, five changes. You always look at it and then on paper,
you say that team should be enough to beat that team. And we did that evening tonight when I looked at it, I went, I'm not always comfortable making so many changes. But there's enough there that we should win this game. Now we did. But we huffed them puffed. And there has to be a bit about it that they might have that eye on the game in Sunday. And, tear they coming on at the end, you know, I can understand now we shouldn't be in the position we are in terms of the backup or the lack of backup at left back. But there is a bit about me that understood why they didn't risk him, for instance tonight. CCTV, I suppose, of for saying that, they're then bringing that. And bringing Murray in was probably in the same basis, the same thought process. The difference though, as you say with guys like Jran, you're thinking there's no, there's no apparent issues with them in terms of his fitness. And he's kind of going to these games thinking, oh, we're going to wrap everybody up and caught in the world because we can't risk them for the game in Sunday. So maybe one or two of those changes would have been sensible in terms of squad
management, tear they getting 20 minutes or whatever it was at the end of the game to maybe likely bring them on for Sunday. I get that. So many changes is completely different. And it just breaks up any of the impetus or any of the kind of flow that we've had, although, you know, St. Mirin was much better. But you know what I mean? Jran and these guys have hit the ground running into an extent. And if you're then taking them out of the team, it just kind of stagnates and it just makes us start a little bit. And I, and it could have cost us tonight, not because the new overall balance of the game that we didn't deserve to win it. But see you again in those last four or five minutes, especially when it came through about my off-skiss score in Ibrook's. A problem is in the only person thinking, or I've seen this story before, they get a light winner and we can see the late equaliser. But we got away with it. And I suppose that's the main thing. For me, the biggest hope and the biggest wish for Sunday is that some of the guys that
with top that weren't playing tonight are fitting ready to go for Sunday because we'll need to fill the Italian strength for that game. Caspar who? You indicated, and I think it's, I think your indication is right, that we aren't playing to strengths. And there was, and the second half, there was one point very specifically where Sam Johnson received the ball and he threw it really, really high and far towards Caspar who and by, with all indications, if you, if you look at like this count reports that like Will and did Christian did and stuff, then we're basically like, that's not the type of guy is, he comes alive in the box. If you're going to, if you're going to rattle balls at him, he's not going to be able to take it down and control it and have people run off him. It's not his strength. And you can kind of see that his hold up plate in the box. Very different. I think
it's quite intricate, I think his feet are quite good. I'm worried we just don't know how to play to his strengths because he didn't get a lot of chances to date. And again, I don't necessarily think it was his fault. Yeah, I think I said earlier on, I don't want to absolve him completely and say that there's no blame with him. I mean, I think he should have buried that chance that he had at one point when, you know, when they keep on going, I think he was fit that he got to in the kind of turn over. Yeah. And nice to know to set it up though. Yeah. And I think for the goal as well, you know, when he kind of laid that off for Hassan, although I thought Hassan was really good for that, just in terms of the way that he played the ball off the defender, he knew exactly how he rolled it sort of thing to regain possession and played it across. I thought that was really, really good. I think I don't think it's, I wouldn't focus on missing that chance more about exactly that we're not playing him right. And again, it's, I knew what has always been a manager
who likes a big man up top. You know, he's, he's certain was, I think he's basically when he came in, he says, I want Chris Sun. Yeah, I mean, I've got him because he knew that he could do that anyone to do that. Hassan, not the same quality from better gobscorer, but you know, he could hold the ball up in that way too. Even at Leicester, you guys like Heiskey, he would call him or play for him as well. He's maybe not in the same mold, but he certainly could hold the ball up. That's something that he likes. Right. I also remember though, it's something that we've often thought, or we've often tried to use in guys that can't do it, even under Rogers, Jack and Marcus, your tall. He is not a Chris Sun or a John Hartson in terms of being able to back off, you know, hold defenders off, hold the ball up and bring others in to play. Didn't stop his trying. Adam Eda. I remember, I think it was the Atlanta game in the Champions League where, back to the wall defensive performance, that was a good point. But what was our outbow,
give the ball to Michael in trying to play it straight down the middle to Casper Eda, Adam Eda, who cannot trap a bag of cement is certainly not a traditional number nine, if you will. It's almost like we buy guys that are tall. That's right. That's right. That he can do it. Exactly. Exactly. And see when he came in, seeing some of these games as well, not domestically, but certainly in Europe, we are crying out for somebody that can hold the ball up. We are crying out by saying, see if you can get an outbow. Outbows where you can obviously, if you get a guy like might, a previously could take that and he could run and he could push. But the idea that you could then get somebody who gets the ball, he can bring it down, he can trap it, hold a defender off, give players time to get forward to give them options. That is an option that could make a difference for us in Europe. And we've really, really wanted that. But we've just named four or five players that we've had who have the only reason why I think that managers think that they can do it as their tall.
Yeah. And she's, she's an answer or she's an answer. However, you pronounce his name. I assume they could do that. And then when I see them when I came in, he was such a weird player. I, you know, cut like, I mean, pen and a eyebrows, you know, he's in the history books for that alone. But he's such a weird player because he just couldn't do it. And it just seems to me it's that you're utilising shoot, you know, who completely in the, you know, the opposite way of the way that Baudel kind of set up around them and they got the balls into him. So you do need to give him a bit of a breaking relation to that as well. But he's going to be a frustrating watch. If we don't figure out how to get the best qualities out of him, and we haven't really done that apart from the command game. Bags and bags are space though. That's what I was going to say. That's what I was going to say. We were doing that against kamikaze mechanics side and he's not going to be there for much longer. But oh man, he was just
the way he says that team up is just outrageous. That's why he's going to be sick. But really, that really then allowed us in it allowed him who to move, play, tease, trends and obviously bag that hatric. But I think you'll get goals for us. I just think though if we continue to persist in the way that we are just now, we're not going to see the best of them. But yeah, I think that's the thing as well. I'm not saying you won't get good performances, but it feels like there is a better player there. You are not getting everything you can get from him. That's going to frustrate an element of us. Other people will be like, I want Celtics Tigers to hit 30. All competitions, if you're talking about Scotch Cup, League Cup, League Europe. 30 is not an outrageous target for the amount of chances that we should be creating for these players. I like this link, as I say, is link up play in the box. Very good. Also, it should be highlighted that his
relationship with Negrin was very, very good right up to that last game, which he obviously got injured and today's his first game back. But it's kind of, I kind of, it feels like Negrin kind of dropped off a little bit and I thought Negrin was better when he come on today. And it just so happens who was on the bench. Sorry, who was playing as well. So there are like threads of what, and this is the kind of what, when Martin Luther was talking yesterday, the press conference, he was talking about there's still players trying to get up to speed and try to figure out what we're doing. And I was thinking to myself, this is why you buy bring players an early. Well, this is exactly why you bring players an early so that by the 9th of September, after the Champions League qualifier, after we're knocked out the Champions League, that you can say, well, we give it all because we got players an early. I think the thing where Neil is, you know, that way when you get older, you give less of a fuck and you start to say what you want. Hi, I think with a Neil, he
he gives more away now in terms of what he says. And I think a lot of the messaging and around is we're still figuring this out as we go along. I'd love to play Jaran and who up front together. And when he said that, I certainly went, oh, yes, two up top, yes, please, I like that. Then I mean, usually I went in what formation. Four, four, two, three, five, two, we don't have the person out who play three, five, two. If you're going to play three, set a halves for a start, we've only got four, four and none of them are very good for being honest. And then it went back. You could maybe see Johnston being able to fulfill that role. He said he's injury issues, tally, a fucking ill man. So you're immediately thinking, why are you saying that out loud? It's almost like I'd love to be able to play the two of them up top. But try to figure out a way how to do it. But it's not gone any further. And yeah, it does, I do get that vibe in the
even the comments around the guys like Soranson as well. It's a case of, yeah, we're trying to figure out what his best position is. It doesn't install confidence in me. It wasn't far away from saying, I don't know the young man talking about Soranson. Like, I've just met the young man. I don't know what you're about them. Sort of thing. It was a bit like who was the the the winger that we had Shved when Hodg is saying hi. Hi, he's here. Hi. It was almost. And in regard to Covid-Onivan, seems to be went from good performances to he was going good. He was going and then he dropped down to bad. He seems to have leveled out at quite a good level. I thought he was good again today. Yeah, the right hand side. When I was so John, he comes back. I think that'll be a good thing, don't you see who gets that? I think Donovan's playing very well. Yeah, then the thing I like a lot about Donovan is his attitude. He doesn't hide.
He's still raw. I suppose that's fine. What is he still only 19? Yeah. It came through. I think he made a very decent impact at the start. I think even thinking back to the the Elmatic qualifier, he in the extra time I remember him being trying to give us an attack in impetus and thinking that that's good to see. And then over the period that the season of the reserves and flows, which is natural. Some of these performances at the end of last season, I will admit, made me think that you are a bit of a flash in the pan. That's probably not fair, but you're a motive and you react to these things. I still think there's aspects of his game that he needs to refine and work on. It remains to be seen if he can be able to take his first choice right back, which is what you would hope. You've seen his interview after the last home game. It's that whole I'm loving the dream stuff, you know, but I think he's got a real chance and
that a lot of that comes from his desire and his attitude. Yeah, a guy like Terny's probably another example of that. He turned into the full back, he turned into because of his attitude and his work. And we've heard the stories about him being the third or fourth choice left back in the unders teams that drive that desire and that will, to come to levels that far more talented players couldn't get close to doing. I don't, I maybe don't see the exact same drive that Terny had because I think that was pretty elite. I see real elements in that and I think that's what's going to give him my chance. I think the conversation and discussion, if he can totally kind of put ralsan out the picture, is null and void now that's gone. Yeah, and that's, that's not a high bar, I think a lot of people would say, but you know, it's certainly, ralsans being here for a long time and with known that he's not good enough, I think we can now comfortably say it would require a bit
of a injury crisis for having to be playing in the Celtic team again. He's maybe not ready, don't have any sort of past Johnson at this stage, but two things, I think there's a chance he could and then two, I think the opportunity will be there because Johnson isn't going to stay here forever is he? So I think it's good signs. Yeah, I agree, good signs. I like him. I think a very good to point out the attitude. He inverts. Sometimes he can have plays in that sort of pocket in between the full back in the midfield. I think, I think his position, all awareness has improved this season. I think he's an intelligent young man. I enjoy watching him. I just like seeing one of us who's really good or on the verder being really good. And I think that's so much more refreshing than someone being in the team for the sake of it, which we've seen in the past where people have got kind of cameos and stuff like that. Talking about just just quickly on that, I mean, another point about a new, I would consider a new would be an old school style manager in the
moment of cluff and you know, steen, etc. If he didn't pull down a minute and a half time and say, did I just see you invert? Do that again in your dropped? Then I'm sorry, I've lost all faith in my manual. And then sure, well, you know, this is the thing. It's like, um, talking in, talking. See if you were, I was talking it, I was talking in a gap. I went, oh, I, okay, I hear someone say something a bit invert, but you were talking in. Sound. That's fine. Do you know it's the way that you deal with these situations? Don't talk in too much, but if you were talking in, that's fine. None of us invert part. I heard someone talking about pressing. No, we're closing down. All right. That's fine. When you was a stand, isn't it? It's standards. And don't have been played well. In terms of defensively, I like St. Johnston. I like how they try to play football. I think Seymour Valcares is a good manager. They clearly don't have the quality. The young guy up front,
I think, is quite good. But he's also came from junior football. I know he went to Dubai or whatever. But the quality they have up front isn't like elite in the Scottish pre-emission. It's not tip-tock. So I think that I felt like what I'm trying to say is defensively, we were fine. However, there was still moments of chaotic situations. There was a position in a move in the beginning of the second half where the ball was played across. And that's when Johnston makes a save with his chair. I should call it it, but it comes off as chest and goes out and stuff. There's just moments of chaos, Samani, that probably we won't be as like we won't concede against certain clubs in the league because they don't have that quality up top, but against the other to clubs and against in Europe. Those situations need to be tidied up because they're going to cost
his problems. Yeah, and I think you look a lot of this through the lines of how that will translate in Europe. Not to bring it up again, but you need to make a reference to it. That's second leg in Austria. I mean, in the first leg, and in the previous domestic games before that, we ignored the evident domestic frailties. I mean, we're talking about McCann's come on, look side in the space that we had. We gave up two or three great chances early on in that game. Dundee and I did. Yes, they hit the poster, they would work five times now. A lot of those chances, not all of them, but a lot of those chances were maybe from distance. So you can then you're then starting excusing that as well. Even the last home game, we won three now on the face of it. You dismiss that. Not completely, but you dismiss it in general, as Sam, you give up chances to create chances. But the last game smacked a home right in your face. It was like, Vick and Bob, Freinpan,
right in the base, you cannot ignore this. There are frailties. And again, it's not just defensively. I think they expose you that they get from how our, our, um, front six, maybe, but certainly I'm in the field exposing the defense. They were so apparent in that game that when you're looking at some of the chances and the situations that we give up the message, you can't help think how that then might translate even at the Europa League level. Now, the thing about a new, even last season when he was in, you know, away wins and fired out in the Europa League, what a rotten mixed campaign that was. But I thought we were really good that night. The thing about a new is, is that whole trump card that he's got in his pocket. So we're talking about Sunday. It wouldn't surprise me if we went out there and absolutely ran the game in one. It wouldn't surprise me if they opposite happened because sometimes if a new gets it right, it's that he makes sure you run through brick walls. There are games even in his first spell in other games where you've heard players talking about I felt 10 foot tall because of the way
that he spoke to me before that. So I think some games in the Europa League will take care of themselves in that manner just because he's that type of guy's that man manager. I think there'll also be situations where we'll go completely turned over because that doesn't work and we're going out in the shapes, pretty poor there. In the defence though, every time you see it, it just looks in coherent. Yeah, even when it's, even when you've got Johnston, Tierney, and then you can take a pick between trust and skills next to CCV, that's your first choice back for even that doesn't fill me with confidence. There's probably not just, it's not just the ability or whatever right because I think on the Vigil they've all got qualities generally speaking but it's the way that they work set up, it's the instruction that they get, they just look as if there are real real weeks but and it is concerned. I don't,
you'd have to be stupid or you'd have to be kidding yourself on not to say that defensively this season we've been really poor. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. We did score. That was one now, make a bowler. It was a good finish, it was a good goal, it was well set up. Tunect day with a ball in. Kaspar Kuh, kind of controls it, lays off the sand, as you say, his hands, he just anticipated the defender coming in and just has that we think and a ball across it as it happened from the bowler. We created a lot of chances towards the end of the match. Miuke has a chance. Nika has a chance. Sorenson has a chance. There's lots of chances but that comes back to my original point at the very start that just it felt like it feels like goals are at a premium at the moment which compared to how we started the campaign with five no wins and stuff. It's a little bit of a concern but we deserve to win overall. Got some comments
from subscribers. I'll just read it a couple just now. This is from Paul. I thought we were a lot better in the second half. We played some good stuff, created some great chances. Donovan was eight some tonight. Murray looked comfortable, has to be turning four, he's down the left on Sunday. I'm still 50-50 for the weekend but I'm a shite bag. Keep up the clear, Mark. This is from Gerard Dorniel. Gerard says, good went tonight, played reasonable away with a lot of changes. The decision to chop off a sands goal was far worse than either of the decisions from the St. Merin game. Seems inadequate, but images are good enough to overturn a line'sman's decision in our favour but not good enough to overturn one against this. That's a great point. This is from our good friend Ken. Positive's three points. Katie back. Donovan getting better. Clean shade away from home. Cons or defence. Bring on the Huns, Hale Hale. Also, it's on the management team to tell our wingers to go forward instead of back. We killed the fences when we move the ball quickly. Good point. On the, we've covered the fire. We're not going to go over it.
In fact, we might cover it on Friday a little bit more just because it's just shite. But with James Forest. Yeah. Rowan back the years, Bra. Rowan back the years. James Forest, a riddle wrapped in an enigma. A guy who is the most decorated player, titles-wise scored over 100 goals, scored in 45 billion consecutive seasons for South-Tecastra. And yet, it has never perhaps been given the credit that many would say is due. I myself don't rate Ms Hale Hale and yourself. Don't rate Ms Hale Hale's numbers and stats, etc. I should probably have them rated as. But people talk about him. He's quite often used
a shorthand for the state of the club and the transfer strategy. It speaks volumes that we are given another year's contract to James Forest. Rauston as well as some of the others that did that. But he's still got some football left on him. And you've heard that sometimes in some of the comments on some of the games last season, you'd hear him saying is he South-Tecastra? No, I don't think he is. I don't think. Do you think with Yang away, is he South-Tecastra best left-winger for Ibrooks? Oh, to have. No, for gun down history books. Yeah. When she ever turned up at Ibrooks. And that is what I'll be honest with you. I'm old school Chris, just like Martin, I don't know. That's one of the benchmarks in the yardsticks by which you judge players maybe unfairly. Most decorated player of all time, when's he ever turned up at Ibrooks? But there is a certain element of truth to that. But I think when he came on tonight and even in
certain games as well, when you want to slow the ball down and retain position, he is a genuinely safe pair of hands when it comes to that. His experience, he's got a good football and brain. He's a guy who's good to have about the squad. I think it would be fair to say if he was starting for a style regularly, then that would speak volumes about transfer strategy. But another reason he criticised it, I suppose. But he deserves more credit than he does and did a style football player and when he came on tonight, the weak rife turn and the shimmy going back and forward. There's an example of turning them back and beating them in again for a purpose to try and create some space. And again, the shot in and of itself, keep it going quite smartly to it, but it was an easy save to make. But it was really, really good to see. He's worthy of the praise and I still will contribute to Celtic this season and who knows maybe even next season. I think
we just need to stop colonies demise because he's keeping proven as wrong for some time now. Just to finish off, Celtic had 60% position, 14 shots, 9 on target and XG of 2.2 with one goal, and XG conceded with 0.8 so we didn't concede enough chances for them to score a goal. So that's certainly a positive. Mark the Neal, just a couple of comments from him before we finish. A win is a win. I'm not sure what to make of it really. We could have scored a number of goals particularly after we scored our first. It's difficult to score goals. There's no question about it. We made it look impossible. Deleted to win the game, lots still to improve on. We've got to get the players into the penalty box to score goals. If you're sitting outside it, you'll not get it. I wonder if that's a wee slide dig. That's my cue maybe. I don't know. Once we get the goal, which obviously gave us momentum, I felt we were kind of strong. They are for a good period of the
game, but never able to put the game beyond St. Johnson. We really had to keep up the tempo. Sometimes our play was a wee bit laborious. St. Johnson had a major chance in the game with Joe Cotterill. St. Johnson makes a fantastic save. Otherwise, we're a goal behind. Yeah, he kind of says stuff now that he probably wouldn't have back in the day. And I'm here for it. It's sent out to him. I was, you know, when you're saying that about when you got older, you got a wee bit more flank. I mean, I was kidding about that. I know that. I think there is such a simple. I just be that, but it certainly reveals more in terms of on criticising how I'm just thinking about that. There was plenty of players in the box and plenty of occasions. It was the delivery that was letting them down. I'd be far, far more critical of our wide players. Yeah, me too. But yeah, it's fine. And again, you know, you react to this games like this at the
time in its obviously an immediate thought process after it. And you can't help bringing your wider, longer term fears about the defence and all these sorts of things into that. But if we're looking at it tonight, the defence wasn't really troubled. And we've said regularly over the course of the play, we did not deserve anything other than the three points. We could have added more. We haven't mentioned them just a very quick thing. In VUCA looks as in VUCA. As in VUCA. VUCA, sorry, in VUCA, that was the guy by the back. Back up on the very talented, um, Bodo Ex-Bodo Lumpler, who's are we back there, I believe, actually? Yeah, absolutely. Um, I, um, he, he looks lively, you know, there, there's, again, maybe wishful thinking, maybe not. There's a bit about me that thinks when he breaks his duck, you might get a situation where he just goes on a real run and scores a lot of goals. Um, we're going back to the point. You know, you can look at, you could look at tonight as a failure routine three points and a
win-win away from home, my clean sheet. I think that is, is a fair enough way to look at it. But generally speaking, you do want to see signs and of improvement in, you know, progress in areas that we've got concern, which is, um, what you're going to then pick out tonight. But I, Martin Eels, part is getting better, but that will work very thin if we start losing games. And we'll be right and tap him if he does that. So he probably knows that as well. Ah, absolutely. Listen, a joy is always, um, we'll be back tomorrow with the round table. Sans are a good friend of Mr. Samani. Yes, um, I have, uh, an alternative, um, engagement arrangement. I don't know who you've got to replace me, but they have very small shoes to fill. We get no one. I'm a size two. We can't replace you, so we've got no one. It's just the three of us. I'm glad you didn't call it the three or the four around around table, because you'd had to change the title. So the round table's fine. Just as people sit around it and the last thing that will be well aware, there is a bloody fine round table now. Thank you very much.
Really appreciate that. Um, none of your chips. It's a quality bag here to put it out. Absolutely. Um, great stuff. We'll also on Friday. We'll have the, um, weekend update myself. And well, we'll, can I talk about this game, but we'll look ahead, I broke some, uh, give some background on how they're going to play and how we can counter them. But a pleasure, a joy is always Mr. Chris for some, I think, we're going to get involved and we'll speak to you again very soon. Pleasure. One on one, we Chris Gallic, uh, what a treat. Thanks very much. What a treat. From Chris Salmani from myself, Chris Gallic, this has been the reaction to Celtics one, no one in pairs. I will speak to you down the road.
