Reporting from The Daily News Now, I'm Corey with the story with the latest entertainment headlines. A new Britbox drama, called The Lady, premieres on March 18, starring Mia McKenna-Bruce as Jane Andrews. Andrews was a working-class woman from Northern England who landed a dream job in 1988 as personal dresser to Sarah, Duchess of York. She rose quickly in royal circles, rubbing shoulders with the elite and even glimpsing Princess Diana. But her story took a tragic turn, ending in a murder conviction. Andrews grew up in a tough home with arguing parents, which left her with deep fears of abandonment. She transformed herself for the job, ditching her northern accent for polished speech and embracing 80s glamour. She became close to the Duchess, handling her wardrobe during a time of heavy media scrutiny. Yet beneath the fairy tale, personal struggles simmered, fueling unstable relationships. Just describe Andrews as fun and connected, but she never felt truly loved. After losing her palace job in 1997, amid tensions with the Duchess, she spiraled.
She dated a shipping-air, then stopped broker Thomas Cressman, marked by fights, jealousy, and claims of abuse on both sides. In September 2000, after Cressman ended things, a violent argument led Andrews to beat and staff him to death with a cricket bat and knife. This found her hours later, hidden in her car after a pill overdose. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to life. The series explores her emotional unravelling and borderline personality disorder diagnosis. Andrews served time and to release in 2015, faced rearrest in 2018 for alleged harassment, then freed again in 2019, creators call it a heartbreaking peak behind royal doors.
