00Hello, this is Mark Satterfield, and welcome to the Velvet Rope Podcast. Tonight's chapter, The Impostors Exit. If you ever catch yourself thinking, why would a billionaire or multi-millionaire listen to me, or what if they see right through me and realize I don't belong? If so, you're not alone. A lot of professionals let Impostor syndrome keep them from playing in the big leagues. They feel like they need to prove themselves before they even step up to the plate. But here's the truth, affluent clients don't just work with the best. They work with the ones who own their value. Today I've got a story for you about a high-end consultant named Nervus Ned, a ruthless investor called Titanium Tony, and the moment Ned learned that confidence isn't about having all the answers, it's about believing you belong in the room.
02By the way, if you want to learn how to attract and close high net worth clients with confidence, visit the Velvet Rope Podcast and get notified when I drop new episodes. While you're there, grab a free copy of my Amazon number one bestselling book, The Affluent Marketing Blueprint. Alright, let's get into it. Ned Novak was a brilliant strategist. He had the credentials, the case studies, and the brains to help even the wealthiest clients scale their businesses. But the one thing he didn't have? Confidence. Ned had spent most of his career working with mid-tier companies. He wanted to break into the ultra-high net worth space, but every time he got close to a deal with a big-time client, he found himself hesitating. Then came Titanium Tony. Tony Titanium Tony Tuscany was a legend in private equity. He built, bought, and sold more companies than most people could name.
02His reputation, brutal. He had no patience for hesitation, no time for people who didn't own their expertise. Through a connection, Ned landed a meeting with Tony. This was it, the opportunity to prove he belonged in the big leagues. Sitting across from Tony at a sleep penthouse office, Ned presented his strategy, smart, well-researched, bulletproof. And yet, Tony leaned back, stared at him and smirked. Kid, you know your stuff, but you don't act like it. Ned swole. What do you mean? Tony gestured at him. You're waiting for me to tell you you're good enough. That's not how this works. I don't work with people who hope they belong here. I work with people who know they do. So do you? Silence. Ned felt every muscle in his body tense up. He wanted to justify himself to explain his expertise, to prove he was worthy.
03But then he realized, that's exactly what Tony was testing him for. So Ned sat up straighter, took a breath and said, Tony, I don't need you to tell me I belong here. I know my strategy works. You can either take it or watch your competitors do it first. They pause. Then Tony grinned. Now that's what I wanted to hear. Send me the paperwork. That moment changed everything for Ned, because he realized that confidence isn't about arrogance. It's about certainty. It's about showing up like you deserve the deal, instead of waiting for permission to claim it. So if you've ever felt like you're not good enough to work with high net worth clients, here's what you need to remember. One, they don't need you to be rich. They need you to be valuable. Two, ultra wealthy clients don't test your skills. They test your certainty in those skills.
04Three, if you don't believe in yourself, why should they? So ask yourself, are you waiting for someone to choose you or are you showing up like someone who already belongs? This is Mark Satterfield. Thanks for listening to this chapter of the Velvet Road Podcast.
