The Keeper stared at the display, where swirling packets of light pulsed in asynchronous rhythm.

“Data fragments,” they whispered. “Billions of them.”

The Captain frowned. “Source?”

“None.”

The ship hummed uneasily. The Wanderer’s voice slipped through the air, quieter than usual. “I already know these endings.”

The crew fell silent.

Then the first file opened itself..."
