The Daily Mess How Much Do We Really Remember Plus Is Boredom The Real Time Keeper Buzz Kill

About this episode

I’m always asking questions.  The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as…   How much of our life goes unremembered?  Plus… is it true that we only remember 20 to 30 of the days during a single year?   I’m Arroe…  I am a daily writer.  A silent wolf.  I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate.  I call it The Daily Mess.  A chronological walk through an everyday world.  Yes, it’s my morning writing.  As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later.  When a subject arrives, I dig in.  It’s still keeping a journal!  By doing the research the picture becomes clearer.  This is the Daily Mess…

Aero.net ARRO.net not just one podcast is 20 different podcasts to choose from one of them being something our parents would say all of those things that even your grandparents would pop up from out of nowhere and you're like what's it makes sense but really what it shocks me when I have to go back three and 400 years to find the roots of something like this something our parents would say only on arrow.net ARRO.net enjoy your exploration here I am that guy that's always asking questions and the reason why is because it's very fun to start researching for answers how much of our life actually goes unremembered plus is it true that we only remember 20 to 30 things out of each year my name is arrow I'm a daily writer a silent wolf that means I stand on the sidelines into nothing but watch listen study then activate I call it the daily mess mainly because it's

a chronological walk through an everyday world which means it is my morning writing as a receiver of thoughts and ideas we as people tend to throw things to the side because we think we're going to deal with it later on well when a subject arrives inside of me I know it is time to dig in it's still keeping that daily journal by doing that research the picture becomes clearer this is the daily mess how much of our life goes unremembered oh you got to brace yourself for this one research clearly shows a huge portion of our life goes 100% unremembered we should always keep in mind that our memory is not locked in on creating a continuous recording it plays out like a highlight reel cognitive research suggests that most daily experiences are never stored in long term memory banks your brain is constantly receiving huge amounts of sensory input now psychologist estimate

that 90 to 99% of the moment by moment experiences that we all go through totally disappear from us in hours and or just minutes whoo the cold hard facts your memories require meaning or emotion other factors that allow a memory to hang out a little bit longer include novelty and surprises repetition and having a personal importance and yes it's very true that many of us do not remember our childhood before four years old it's called childhood amnesia memories are made to fade let me say that one more time memories are made to fade your brain experiences millions of events but only retains fragments of them which basically means you ain't making a movie it is a movie trailer instead hey coming up next is it true that just maybe there's only like 20 or 30 things that we remember in a single year hey welcome back to the daily mess is it true that

maybe 20 or 30 things are actually remembered out of every single year I mean we're talking 335 days out of 365 seriously per year wait a second here this is not true information not true the idea comes from research on distinctive memory days but it doesn't connect us to a short list of memory making this study is actually based on when asked about a certain year you and I we tend to recall only 20 or 30 things you see where we're going here mainly because most days are routine and blend together we tend to store our memories in patterns and themes very very very few of us unless you're a daily writer like myself no one truly keeps daily records of what you're remembering so what happens to the memories when we can't just instantly bring them up well they're stored inside a compressed script the brain is locked in on summarizing

our routine life number one reason to save on cognitive space a routine year will always feel like it's flying by whereas a full year a big changes whoo that's going to feel like it's lasted forever but then again that's based on hindsight if your week does feel long it's called a vacation paradox that proves that being very bored can actually slow down time I'm arrow and that's the daily mess
