There are still so many people that believe, they really believe that batteries will only last you a few years. You can throw away that EV after a few years because those batteries will be wrecked and therefore EVs don't make sense. A lot of people still really believe that. I'm shocked by this but they really do. However, as I've been saying on this channel for years now, EV batteries will generally outlast the life of the car. And this new study proves the point. Have my friends, welcome to the channel, I'm Sam Evans. Great to have you with us. An EV health study has shown that batteries are lasting longer than expected. Surprise, surprise. And I've reported on this numerous times, guys. I mean, there's been numerous studies proving this point. For some reason, the average person in Australia, the UK, the United States and Canada, they don't know any of this. So please share this with your friends. In your feed, there's 7,500. A study of electric cars has demonstrated much better than expected performance for older batteries, even once with garbage battery management systems. In other words, the current batteries are much better than this. Even when significant mileage has been clocked up. Now, for one interesting point, we've seen recycled Nissan Leaf batteries, which are the worst battery, worst car batteries in the industry. That's pretty much a well-accepted fact. But we've seen recycled versions, powering the Rome airport, powering factories, powering, if they can be recycled and reused, imagine how good actual good batteries would be. In the larger study, if it's kind of so far, the generational 2025 battery performance indexed industry benchmark report quite a mouthful,

examined more than 8,000 electric passenger cars and like commercial vehicles in the UK. It included 36 different vehicle makes and both plug-in hybrid and full electric cars with an age range of 0 to 12 years and mileage up to 160,000 miles, which is around 260,000 kilometers. It didn't say the battery types, but most of them were NMC batteries, not LFP. Average battery health remained at 95% in fact 95.15% of the original capacity when new. That was noted as the state of health, 95.15%. Older EVs aged between 8 and 9 years still maintained 85% of their original capacity according to the data, suggesting age does not significantly deplete battery health. I should mention a pretty large proportion of these cars were Tesla's of course, because Tesla was earlier the market, but some of them were Nissan Leafs.

So this is a pretty remarkable data. 8 and 9 year old batteries, 85% on average. Yeah, it also showed high mileage vehicles, those which had traveled more than 100,000 miles or around 160,000 kilometers, maintained between 88 and 95% battery health. You can imagine the Nissan Leafs that didn't have a proper battery management system, are probably the ones that are at 88%. And the cars that do have a proper one, they were the ones that were at 95%. Not always, but most of the time that would be the case. But you can see here guys, 100,000 miles and your battery is still going to be great. I mean, 88 to 95%. It's pretty good numbers. The study found that minimizing mileage didn't bring substantially longer battery life, with the battery health of younger, high mileage vehicles typically outperforming that of older low mileage vehicles.

So just having the battery sitting there, it still does very slowly lose capacity over time. It concluded that a well-maintained three-year-old fleet EV with 120,000 kilometers on its odometer may be about a purchase than a six-year-old vehicle with only 50,000 kilometers on the clock. So it's worth keeping that in mind. They're saying you're better off buying a car, right? Three-year-old car with 120,000 kilometers on the clock, than a six-year-old one with 50,000 kilometers on the clock. for this guys. It's not as simple as it sounds. One of the reasons is the fact that battery management systems and batteries in general have improved over time. So that six-year-old vehicle is going to have a battery pack and a vehicle that's not as capable of maintaining its health span over time. than the newer EV. That's just simply technological advances in the industry. Anyway, one, the study also showed that most batteries, or most manufacturers battery warranties, are more than long enough and that these batteries and that batteries typically outperform warranty parameters often exceeding the lifespan of the vehicle, resulting in few claims from customers. And in fact, if you look at all the claims recently for engine deep defects and problems with engines, particularly in the United States, but also in many countries, it would appear that electric cars in general are far more reliable than internal combustion cars, particularly as they've done a lot of kilometers. In other words, say you've

got a 200,000 kilometer EV, start 200,000 kilometers or well over 100,000 miles. If you compare the reliability of an internal combustion car that's done over 200,000 kilometers, the EV is clearly going to be the better choice. The report said battery degradation is no longer the systemic risk it was previously seen as, with battery condition still being the major factor in the long-term resale of used EVs as opposed to their odometer readings. So that's an interesting thought, isn't it? Normally, in the past, when I went aboard a new car, not a new car, when I went aboard a used car, which is almost always what I did, I would go, what's on the odometer? How many kilometers has this vehicle done? Now, the first thing you've got to do is have a look at the battery health and then the kilometers that is done. Interesting way of reframing your purchasing decision. So here's the chart, guys, showing battery degradation and you can see it kind of does slow down. When you get to that point where the battery is so between four to eight years, so the fourth,

fifth, sixth, seventh year, battery degradation is very minimal. You're looking at only about a percent per year. It's very, very small and that's an average across the industry, which is pretty damn awesome. The other thing I'd say is these numbers are actually extremely misleading. Yes, they actually really are. And the reason I say that is because electric cars in 2026, well, a lot more of them have lithium ion phosphate batteries, a lot more of them have great battery management systems, and a lot more of them are built with quality control issues that have been sorted and fixed in an LG Chem. A lot of the batteries in this study would have been LG Chem batteries, right? Then had all these warranty issues. A lot of them would have been batteries that were, um, ferrassus. I mean, not saying they were ferrassus batteries, but you know, quality might not have been as good as, well, it definitely wouldn't have been as good as what batteries are today. Companies, many of them say these bends and Hyundai and General Motors

have hand battery teething issues, big ones. And guys, those issues appear to be gone. The industry is pivoted predominantly to LFP now, which are last longer. And also, we are seeing companies that have had more experience mass producing batteries, mass producing electric cars. So this study is really, really good because it's showing you that these are like your worst-case scenario numbers, because new modern EVs will last will be even better.
