TfL Studies Step-Free Access for 5 Underground Stations

0:00On March 26, Transport for London just announced plans to study five underground stations for step-free access. The stations in line are barking side, brink cross, pressed in road, queens vary, and totterage and wet stone. This push aims to make them fully wheelchair-friendly down the road. These feasibility checks would bump the total number of stations with step-free studies or designs underway to 45. Right now, more than a third of all London underground stations already provide that access from street to platform. Deputy Mayor for Transport's SEVDANCE highlighted how this fits into making the city open to everyone. TFL's customer chief Alex Williams added that starting with these studies is a smart way to expand accessibility across the network. Colin Dale joined as the 94 step-free station back in December. Northell wraps up its upgrades this summer, while Layton follows in spring next year. With these moves, TFL keeps building a more inclusive tube system for riders of all abilities.
