Teens' Cannabis Blunder Leads to Arrest

The bag contained about 43 grams of marijuana and $3,700 New Zealand dollars in bank notes. Police say the teens ditched it in the Southland region while waiting for their vehicle to get serviced on February 18th. A shop volunteer spotted the bag in the donation area and noticed a strong smell right away. They brought it inside, opened it up, and quickly realized it was no ordinary donation. Meanwhile, recreational cannabis remains illegal there, even after voters narrowly shot down legalization in a 2020 referendum. Officers searched the teen's vehicle and found an air pistol, which underage kids need a license and supervision to have.
