Teacher's Death After Prank Gone Wrong

0:00It's March 9th. Here's what's happening around the world. A high school teacher in Georgia died after a student prank went horribly wrong. Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old instructor, stepped outside his home to surprise students who were toilet papering his trees. The ground was slick from rain, and he tripped and fell right as the teens tried to flee in two cars. One of the drivers accidentally ran over Hughes while speeding away. The 18-year-old driver, Jaden Ryan Wallace, faces vehicular homicide charges while he and four other 18-year-olds are charged with. Criminal trespass in littering, Hughes' wife, also a teacher at the same school, says the family wants all charges dropped. She described her husband as beloved by the students and stressed that punishing them would go against his dedication to the kids. After the accident, Wallace and two others stopped to help before paramedics arrived, but Hughes could not be saved at the hospital. The school district remembers Hughes as a passionate teacher, mentor, and coach.
