Taren County College just acts as architectural technology programs, including an associate

degree in three certificates.

Trustees voted yes at their March board meeting, citing super low graduation rates, like only

17 grads out of over 500 in Roles in the. Main program over five years. High and Roman

drops off quick, one students learn the credits, don't transfer easy to universities. To make

those courses stackable, they need extra studio time, new full-time staff, and more gear,

which just ain't feasible right now. Vice President Stephen Jones broke it down, saying

students bounce to four year schools anyway, leaving the programs low producing by state

standards.

Former program director Arnie Radman, ain't shocked, but wishes they'd fixed the transfer

mess instead of killing it. He argues it gives young folks in their late teens or 20s,

a cheap way to test the architecture waters and land entry level gigs firms called him,

for students back in the day. Jones counters that industry advisors see no real jobs for

these credentials.

The cut saved the college about $165,000 a year amid budget squeezes from frozen tuition

and taxes. No full time or adjunct faculty lose jobs, and the 140 current students get

to finish up with solid advising. Meanwhile, officials are chatting with university partners

about future architecture options, while statewide credit loss stays a headache. Texas lost.
