Tardif Steps Down: IIHF Seeks New Leader

On March 29, Luke Tardiff, the 73-year-old president of the International Ice Hockey Federation,

just announced he won't seek a second.

Term.

Elected on September 25, 2021, he'll wrap up his single term this October after steering

the organization through some major hurdles.

During his watch, the I.I.H.F. tackled the COVID pandemic head-on, pulling off the Olympics

amid lockdowns and setting new health rules.

They also deepened ties with the Olympics crew, the NHL, players' association, and even

the new women's league to bring top talent back to.

International play.

Tardiff feels the Federation's now rock-solid, perfect timing to hand off to fresh blood

while he chills with family.

Hailing from Tua Riviera's in Quebec, he played college hockey there, went pro in Belgium

in France, then climbed the ranks running youth programs, and leading French ice hockey

for years.

For the top job, he served on I.H.F. committees for competitions and finances.

Now, with the September Congress coming up, they're set to pick the 15th president since

the group started back in May, 1908, expect more moves from Tardiff before he steps aside,

keeping the momentum rolling into the next era of global puck action.
